Very satisfied with working with Prowse Barrette. Ijaz Jiwani was my lawyer that helped through the process of being a plaintiff in a civil case. I honestly couldn’t have gotten through the process without him and can’t thank him enough for the contributions he made to the outcome of my case. He was incredibly helpful and supportive through the process. He encouraged me in my choice to self represent. Ijaz explained the court process and made sure I understood everything and was completely prepared. Ijaz’s guidance and preparation was the reason I felt so confident in my abilities to self represent. He helped me up to and through my court day answering many last minute questions or concerns. I contacted this firm while dealing with a high-conflict family matter involving serious child safety concerns and a history of domestic abuse. In my initial inquiry email, I specifically asked about trauma-informed practice and experience with high-conflict cases, and I shared enough details for them to understand the sensitivity and urgency of my situation.

During the consultation, I was transparent about the realities of my case, including physical abuse, financial abuse, and ongoing safety concerns. As a social worker myself, I brought trauma-informed summaries and documentation I had prepared to help explain the background clearly and professionally. Instead of engaging with this respectfully, the lawyer laughed at my summaries and dismissed them, which felt unprofessional, belittling, and deeply inappropriate.

I was told that I would receive follow-up paperwork by the next day so I could formally decide whether to retain the firm. That never happened. Weeks passed with no communication at all, despite being told my matter was urgent. The promised email from the assistant arrived more than a month later, at a time when my situation had already escalated significantly.

Because of the lack of trauma-informed understanding, the dismissive attitude toward my professional input, and the complete failure to follow through on basic communication, I ultimately decided not to retain this firm. I requested a refund for the consultation based on these concerns, and that request was denied.

For anyone seeking compassionate, trauma-informed legal support in a high-conflict family law matter, this was not my experience.

Find a different firm, i paid in June 2025 and was assured they would start working on my case, it's now almost end of January 2026 and nothing to my knowledge has been done, I havnt been able to contact my lawyer in 3 months, I've requested my money back and been ghosted. I have been calling and being put to voicemail even though the reception says they are available.

I entrusted my case to a lawyer at this firm for about 8 months on a property-related matter. Court dates were repeatedly adjourned, and I often had to request updates on hearing dates and next steps.
Over time, I felt communication became less proactive, which caused significant time, emotional, and financial stress. In particular, there was little to no communication with my primary lawyer for approximately two weeks during the Christmas period.
I later decided to transfer my case to a different firm, and the final invoice I received related to a consultation with another lawyer within the firm. At my lawyer’s suggestion, I consulted with that lawyer. While I understood and accepted the fees for the actual consultation time, I found it difficult to understand being billed separately for the other lawyer’s preparation time for that consultation.
