I have been shopping at Garden State for maybe 2 years now , and every experience has been positive. I am a ferret mama and now have purchased 2 of my fuzzies from them and both are healthy and happy. Both Nick and Victor are always amazing with me . Recently I lost 2 of my oldest ferrets a week apart and was devastated, when Nick found out he came from behind the counter to give me a much needed hug , those are the little things that keep me coming back. As soon as I walk in Victor always takes me around to show me what’s on sale or BYGO and they know exactly what I need before I even ask . Happy to shop small businesses before corporate and will continue to give this small business my money . Prices can be high but that’s everywhere, they have overhead and employees to pay so I am understanding. Biggest plus is they carry items you can’t find anywhere else. Wish Nick and Victor long success!!!

I had an absolutely horrible experience at Garden State Pet Center and will not be returning.
The smell when I walked through the door was overwhelming. I was not greeted when I entered, and honestly, I’m not even sure anyone working there noticed I was in the store. I attempted to walk around because I was specifically there to look at reptiles, but I couldn’t stay long. The reptiles I saw appeared hungry and stressed, and the overall condition and smell of the store were extremely concerning.
The odor and apparent uncleanliness were so bad that it actually triggered an asthma flare-up for me, and I had to leave. I have never experienced anything like that in a pet store.
What concerned me even more was seeing that people apparently board their pets there. After what I experienced, I would be mortified to leave one of my animals in that environment. I would genuinely feel like I needed to take my pet directly to the vet after picking them up.
If simply being inside the store for a short period of time was enough to trigger a medical issue for me, I can’t help but wonder what those conditions are doing to the animals that are housed there day after day.
I absolutely do not recommend this establishment. I personally will never be back.

This is no Petco or PetSmart. It is a small and locally owned pet store. It's obvious that the people who run this shop are passionate about animals. They seem to be educated about the behavior of the animals in their care. You can find a variety of birds here as well.

Ordered black quail and pearl quail from this website and instead received an assorted mix. Not only did they not send me any shipping info, once i cancelled the order and requested a refund, they ignored my emails and THEN sent tracking info a week after I placed the order. Then on top of that drama, after the hatch, they still refused to refund me. Absolutely HORRIBLE communication and apparently are incompetent to quail breeds. Yet still no store credit, no refund or replacement. Will never order anything from this place again.
NOT ONLY WERE THEY PETTY after I wrote this review of honey from the terrible experience victor and his accomplice “Evony” went and wrote me a review on my old business on Google even though I’ve NEVER done business with these psychos in the past, never knew or met them until this experience. just goes to show their sad lack of professionalism and proves they are not trust worthy and are extremely deceptive and immature. Don’t waste your money or time with these people.

I can honestly say this is one of the best pet stores in the South Jersey area! This was only my third visit to Garden State Pet Center, but the level of customer service has been consistently outstanding every time.
I’ve shopped at other pet stores for my pets’ needs, but I never felt as welcomed as I do here. From the moment you walk in, the staff greets you and genuinely takes the time to see how they can help.
On my most recent visit, I came in because my cat stopped eating his usual raw diet. The manager, Nick, took the time to help me find a freeze-dried option, and my cat absolutely loves it. On top of that, I reached out through their Instagram with some nutrition questions, and the owner, Vick, personally responded. He didn’t hesitate to go in-depth with me, especially regarding ingredients like chicken fat, since my dog has a severe chicken allergy.
He even helped me build a nutrition plan using Farmina, which gave me a lot of confidence in what I’m feeding my pets. When I came back to pick up my dog’s food, the team once again went above and beyond, taking their time, answering all my questions, and making me feel completely supported.
This will definitely be my go to pet store moving forward, both for my dog and my cattery. Highly recommend!

To start this off I have nothing against the workers in here or the sections of the store that are not reptile based. Workers were friendly and answered questions and to the best of my knowledge the bird and rodent sections looks great. A couple days ago I went out with my boyfriend to buy a leopard gecko. When I first got it I noticed that something was covering her eyes. At the moment I was told that it’s just sand and was normal. Didn’t think anything of it. When I got home with her I noticed stuck shed and lots of folds on her skin. She seemed to be dehydrated as well. After giving her a bath I noticed lots of stuck shed to the point one of her toes was losing circulation. Next day took the gecko back removed what I was told was stuck shed. Later that night I noticed the eyes were still closed and there was bubbling at the nose. Literally one day after I got her I had to take her to the vet. There I found out that it was not stuck shed but vitamin plugs and an infection has spread to her eyes. Had to pay 347 dollars. What’s frustrating is that this could have easily been prevented if she was in the right conditions. She didn’t have a humid hide and her diet wasn’t right which made her shed skin stick to her. It’s been a week and her eyes are slowly opening but because of stress my girl hasn’t been eating well. Again my issue isn’t with the way staff handle any other areas of the store it looks truly great. Lots of different products for animals to chose from but again this issue could have been easily prevented witch proper care

Called them late during a week night looking for a bunny, they kept the door open for me and i was able to get everything i needed after they were closed. Great people and it was overall a very good experience. And I love my bunny! (There is Dopey!)

Garden State Pet Center has such a variety of toys food for all kinds of animals, including chickens. Plus, they have many of the animals there to go with the food. I’ve been going there for quite a long time to buy Bird food because the quality is what I expect to give to my bird. I just recently purchased a baby bird from Garden State Pet Center. A baby blue crown conure. I go just about every day to visit because he is not old enough to come home. Nick who very kindly feeds My baby bird formula 3 times a day and keeps me posted on his progress is great. Everyone there is so kind to the animals, so knowledgeable about the animals and all of the food products and toys they supply. I think I might be a little sad when my baby can come home because I won’t be able to go there every day to visit everyone and all of the birds, The rabbit, The guinea pigs, Snakes, Geckos…. I can’t even name them all. It’s a great community store in a great neighborhood. Everyone should come and visit plus maybe take home a new addition to your family. Don’t be surprised if you still see me there with my baby bird on my shoulder. I think he likes it there so much he won’t give up the formula so he can go home.
