My family and I have been customers of Gate City Bank for over 10 years. When we first started banking here, it felt like a very friendly and welcoming place. Unfortunately, over the years I’ve experienced quite a few inconsistencies and issues.

Most recently, as a new small business owner this past year, I explored my options for business banking and potential lending. During that process, the loan representative at this location made what felt like very rude and condescending comments toward me and told me my business likely would not make enough to qualify for a loan. Looking back, that should have been a red flag. However, because my family and I had been loyal customers for so many years, I chose to move forward and open a business account with them anyway.

Since then, my experience has continued to feel far from supportive of small businesses. Many of the policies and interactions I’ve had come across as more focused on fees and revenue rather than genuinely helping small business owners succeed.

Because of this, I would encourage small business owners to explore other banking options in town before choosing Gate City Bank. There are several other banks and credit unions locally that may be a better fit for small businesses.

This is the second new car I financed through Gate City Bank, Samantha and the bank are awesome, as usual.

Love Gate City! But this location is horrible. I will literally go out of my way to go to any other location. Rude staff, rude bankers. So unhelpful. Just go to another location. 13th Ave is wonderful! Honestly…this has been the first Gate City I’ve had any issue with.

Tellers are always great to work with. Early drive through hours are nice and convenient. Worked with Mike on a loan and he was very professional. He is polite and had an answer for every question I had. He is also very quick in communication, always getting back in a timely manner.
