After approximately five years as clients of Family Legacy, my wife and I are incredibly disappointed by the lack of professionalism, communication, and respect we experienced from this firm.
Without a single phone call, email, or prior discussion, we received a certified letter abruptly informing us that Family Legacy had resigned as advisor to our investment accounts. No meaningful explanation, no opportunity for a conversation, and seemingly no consideration for the relationship we had maintained with the firm for years.
The letter consisted of a single sentence announcing the termination of our advisory relationship, followed by instructions to contact Charles Schwab with account questions. I've included a redacted photograph so prospective clients can see exactly how this five-year relationship was ended.
Unfortunately, this was not an isolated communication issue. For more than two years, we experienced virtually no proactive outreach regarding our financial planning, changing circumstances, or long-term goals. In May 2026, I personally initiated a meeting because we had gone so long without a meaningful financial planning discussion. Even that conversation was relatively basic and, in my opinion, provided little meaningful guidance or value. While the firm continued managing our investments, we did not feel we were receiving the proactive financial planning and guidance we expected from an advisory relationship.
What makes this particularly frustrating is that our financial circumstances were evolving significantly. From the beginning, we were transparent that we were younger clients building toward substantially greater financial assets and long-term investment needs. We had every intention of expanding our investments and continuing the relationship for years to come. Yet we were not offered a conversation about our current circumstances before receiving the termination letter.
Clients should not have to reach a certain level of wealth to deserve basic respect, proactive communication, and professional courtesy from their financial advisor. Whether someone has $50,000 or $5 million invested, they deserve to be treated like their relationship matters.
Following the termination, I sent a detailed email directly to one of the firm's owners and an individual with whom we had maintained a relationship since becoming clients approximately five years ago. I explained our disappointment, the lack of communication, and how abruptly our relationship had been ended. Despite reaching out to individuals who I believed understood our history with the firm, neither acknowledged or responded to those concerns as of October 16. Our separate administrative request for account records was fulfilled, but the lack of acknowledgment from the people we had trusted with our financial planning was particularly disappointing.
I fully recognize that advisory firms have the right to determine which clients they serve. However, there is a substantial difference between making a business decision and treating longstanding clients as though their relationship never mattered.
We came to Family Legacy through a trusted personal referral and expected a firm that valued relationships, communication, and long-term financial planning. Instead, we felt forgotten for years and ultimately discarded without so much as a conversation.
For a business entrusted with people's financial futures, I find this level of communication and client care unacceptable. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Family Legacy to anyone seeking a genuine, long-term financial advisory relationship.
