We had a very urgent Title IX emergency removal situation with my daughter at a university in Michigan. We contacted SBBL law and were able to speak to Stephanie Rowland the same day! She worked quickly to send a letter to university counsel pointing out how they had not appropriately followed Title IX protocol. Stephanie had the emergency removal reversed within 50 hours! Stephanie was sensitive, caring and truly understood the urgency of our situation. She was available and communicative through our process with her. We’re extremely thankful for Stephanie’s prompt assistance.

When our son, an 11 year old with autism and ADHD, was facing expulsion and a Title IX investigation from school over an incident directly tied to his disability, we did not know where to turn. We were terrified, heartbroken, and completely overwhelmed by a system that felt like it was working against our child rather than for him.
Finding Stephanie Rowland changed everything.
Stephanie did not just know the law. She understood our son. She understood what was at stake for his future, his education, his confidence, and his sense of himself as a good person who made a mistake. Navigating both a Title IX investigation and a Manifestation Determination Review simultaneously felt impossible until Stephanie stepped in. She took on a situation that felt overwhelming and approached it with intelligence, strategy, and genuine compassion we did not expect.
She explained every step of both processes in language we could actually understand. She knew exactly which protections applied to our son under IDEA and Title IX and she was not afraid to use them. She moved quickly when time was critical and never once made us feel like we were fighting this alone.
Because of Stephanie our son had someone in his corner who knew how to fight for him the right way within a system that felt designed to work against him.
We came to Stephanie scared and feeling completely powerless. She gave us our voice back. More importantly she helped protect our son's future when we did not know how to do that ourselves.
If your child has a disability and is facing any kind of school disciplinary action, a Title IX investigation, or both, do not wait. Call Stephanie Rowland. She is exactly who you need in your corner.

I cannot express my gratitude towards Heath Lynch, Sarah Sheridan-lynch and the rest of the SBBL- team. They treated my son and family like people (family-like) not just a case number, and worked tirelessly (in this case tirelessly is an understatement) to protect my son’s rights. This was a very challenging case with no evidence on prosecutors end, and not letting our evidence in. With that being said, They (SBBL, Heath and Sarah) were incredibly compassionate, prepared, professional , and managed to get my son fully acquitted!!!! This was a long journey for my son (emotionally and physically) and affected our whole family ( even though I was a very blunt, opinionated and an annoying mom) , Heath and Sarah were always there for unlimited support and guidance! They will forever have a special place in our hearts. If you need a knowledgeable and reliable lawyer, SBBL , Heath Lynch is the best choice.

Heath took my case to trial for a hefty sum of money and was unsuccessful. That's just how it goes.
However, a moderately valuable amount of possessions were unlawfully seized. Heath supposedly worked with the prosecutor a transfer of the items to a third party to consign so that I may receive the funds for their liquidation.
Now that I have served my time I followed up with SBBL to enquire on the matter, but I have been ignored and spun for months with lackluster excuses.
I've patiently waited half a year with regular follow-ups, but they just ignore.
The firm is more than willing to accept your money, but will not help you one bit when it comes to money that is supposed to be headed your way.
Very disappointed at the lack of communication.

Tessa is an exceptional Title IX defense attorney, and our family is profoundly grateful for her representation. She successfully got our child’s Title IX case dropped with one of Kent County’s public schools, but her impact went far beyond the outcome. From the moment we contacted her, Tessa demonstrated compassion, remarkable expertise, and a level of skill that immediately put us at ease during an incredibly painful and chaotic time.
Her knowledge of Title IX processes is extensive, and her ability to communicate clearly, calmly, and effectively with the multiple parties involved was excellent. Throughout the process she presented things in a way that built trust and confidence. She was always responsive, thoughtful, and consistently one step ahead.
Hiring Tessa was unquestionably the right decision. She not only protected our child’s rights but also guided our family with empathy and unwavering professionalism. The staff at SBBL is also wonderful! Professional, compassionate, and highly responsive!
We cannot recommend Tessa highly enough. She is truly exceptional at what she does.
