Sushi was excellent. Good beer choices. Fries were good and crispy. Chicken sandwich was neither spicy or sweet (it was suppose to be hot honey jalapeño). It was dry and bkand.

Absolutely disappointed in the food here. Love the West Ashley location but Uber eats had a special for this location so I’ve tried them twice now and both orders had issues. They sent the wrong sushi roll last time but I thought I’d try the place again because mistakes sometimes happen. Sadly I won’t ever use the James Island location again. Ordered from there tonight and my steak was so undercooked it wasn’t edible. I get this same roll every time I order and have never had it turn out like this. Not to mention I paid $4 for salmon to be added and was barely given a sliver.

We decided to spend our Saturday night at Locals & had a great time.
First we ordered an appetizer of crab wontons, then chicken hibachi & an assortment of sushi rolls.
The hibachi was absolutely delicious; grilling the veggies until charred took it to another level! I just wish it was a slightly bigger portion size and presented differently. A lot of people like to mix up their veggies or rice with hibachi, that’s pretty hard to do on a skinny rectangular plate.
The included miso soup was average, but good.
The sushi was very creative! Pink rice paper wrapping is something I haven’t tried before and including jalapeños in some of the rolls was a great idea. The variety is great & was unexpected for a smaller pub style restaurant. The prices are spot on as well, definitely a great value; I would come back again just for the sushi.
The crab wontons were hot, fresh & delicious. It’s not often that you can actually see pieces of crab in wontons, but you could with these! Also, the sweet chili sauce was bright & complemented them perfectly.
Service was overall acceptable but could use improvement. A little sluggish at times.
The atmosphere was very lively & enjoyable, the outside patio seating was nicely laid out & there’s a ton of seating inside. The only thing I didn’t like was the tiny 2 top high tables right in the middle of the dining room. It felt a little awkward when we were seated in the high top, we later asked for a booth & switched seats when one came available.
Overall I had a nice night at Locals. It’s a great date night spot & I’m sure to return again soon in the future.

We came in for sushi, but the prices were exorbitant, so we opted for sandwiches and fries.
Buttttttttt 🛑
Mondays and Wednesdays are the days to go get sushi at a reasonable price. Now, maybe the full prices are worth it, but I couldn't bring myself to pay $14+ for a roll that was shrimp and crab at the minimum. Will we be back? Absolutely.
That being said, I had the Goat Cheese Burger and it was GOOD!!! The goat cheese paired with the Sriracha infused honey and grilled onions was everything I didn't know I needed on a burger! The brioche bun made it that much better. I had fries and they were perfectly crispy and the ketchup must be a special blend too because it was better than normal!
Hubby had the Carolina BBQ sandwich with tots. The tots were overcooked in my opinion but he loved them. Is only wish was that the sandwich was bigger, but I did think the Carolina barbecue was good with the slaw on top.
They had a spacious outside bar area that was also covered, so it would be a nice place to hang when the temps are bearable.
We'll see ya next time... On a Monday or Wednesday, haha.

Half priced sushi is beyond WORTH IT! It also allowed us to see how "worth" some of the rolls were and let's just say, we cannot wait to go back!
We had:
🍙Crazy Salmon: fresh and I enjoyed the flavor combos. #3 in my top favs this visit.
🍙IOP: This was my favorite roll this visit! The sweetness and crunch of the mango balanced so well with the rest of the roll along with the cilantro and slow burn of the sriracha. It gave me poke vibes from Hawaii.
🍙 Local Lovers: my #2. I enjoyed the seared topper and the creamy roll.
🍙Spicy Tataki: Meh. It wasn't awful but the ponzu/eel sauce was overpowering. It was still ok though. It was my least favorite.
🍙 Torched Salmon: this was hubby's favorite and my #4. Pretty basic but it was fresh.
The patio is fabulous and the live music from the 90's was everything we needed on a 78 degree Wednesday night!

I love Locals! I try not to repeat restaurants often in Charleston but this is one spot I will always gladly come back to. Even if you aren’t a sushi lover there is something on the menu for everyone. Our server Ashley was attentive and provided great service. I love the energy the restaurant brings for happy hour with a great deal of half off a majority of their sushi rolls. The Tuna Tower was delicious. We also got the Charleston and the Holy City roll. My favorite roll is by far the Holy City Roll! If you are in the mood for some good food check out Locals!
