Szukics, D.O., is a fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon at Baptist Health Orthopedic Care. He specializes in treating sports-related and orthopedic injuries of the hip, knee, shoulder and ankle. His expertise includes minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, shoulder replacement, and tendon/ligament tears. He cares for athletes and active individuals of all ages, helping them restore function and return safely to the activities they enjoy. Dr. Szukics earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Jefferson Health in New Jersey. He then completed an orthopedic sports medicine and arthroscopy fellowship at Baptist Health Orthopedic Care in South Florida, where he received advanced training in complex sports injuries, joint preservation and minimally invasive surgical techniques. He also holds a master’s degree in biomedical sciences from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and a bachelor’s degree in biology from The College of New Jersey. He is board-eligible through the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Szukics has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations examining hip and shoulder arthroscopy, knee ligament injuries, sports injuries and patient outcomes. His experience includes providing medical coverage for professional, collegiate and high school athletes. This background in sports medicine allows him to apply the same thoughtful, evidence-based approach used in caring for competitive athletes to every patient he treats. Dr. Szukics believes that effective orthopedic care begins with listening. He takes time to understand each patient’s goals, lifestyle and expectations before developing an individualized treatment plan. Whenever appropriate, he recommends nonsurgical treatment as the first line of care. When surgery is necessary, he uses advanced, minimally invasive techniques designed to restore function and support a safe, efficient recovery. He works closely with patients, referring physicians, physical therapists and other members of the care team throughout every stage of treatment. Outside of work, Dr. Szukics enjoys attending sporting events, spending time at the beach, playing golf and tennis, and traveling. Most of all, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Christina Mezes, D.O., a Urogynecologist with Baptist Health as well, their daughter, Sophie, and their Irish doodle, Logan. Read more
