St. Dominic is a Catholic elementary school in the Lakeshore area of Mississagua, Ontario dedicated to educational excellence and spiritual fulfillment. One indication of the quality of education that awaits students at St. Dominic is the fact that we are one of the few select "Lighthouse" schools… St. Dominic is a Catholic elementary school in the Lakeshore area of Mississagua, Ontario dedicated to educational excellence and spiritual fulfillment. One indication of the quality of education that awaits students at St. Dominic is the fact that we are one of the few select "Lighthouse" schools in the Province. The Ontario Ministry of Education's Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat sponsors an initiative called the Lighthouse Program. This program was launched in 2006 to celebrate and connect schools who are making significant and sustained progress in student achievement. <p> There are currently only 62 "Schools on the Move" in Ontario who have received this designation and 40 additional schools were added in June of 2008, and I’m pleased to inform you that St. Dominic was selected as one of those 40 schools in the province. The process for being selected was quite extensive and included interviews between a panel of Ministry officials and the Principal, Parent Chair and numerous teaching staff. They reviewed our literacy and numeracy programs and strategies being deployed at the school. <p> We are extremely honoured and proud to be one of the recipients of this designation.
