We've had Gentek, vinyl siding on our home for 11 years. It's their pebble color, so not really that dark. It's fading and chalking badly, and they won't do squat under their bogus warranty! And yes, I've washed it. On the south side, above a roof, it's warping and curling so bad that I can't even get the sample piece back on that I'd sent in to their useless warranty lab! Ya, I'm choked!!!!

Now I have to try to make it look good myself and pay out of my own pocket! Do yourself a favour and get something else!

Hope this helps,
Nolan

Home is 10 years old and siding plebe in color has faded from a nice brown to light beige to off calk white color but, apparently this is normal wear for this brand. It has just made my decision a lot easier for all my new home to go with Canxel Siding and stay away from vinyl.

Terrible Product. We installed in June of 2003. Two sides of our house are BADLY faded. They claim that "3 sides must fail" and then they will reside the 4th side as a "courtesy". Despite sending them pictures of the third side that has also faded, they claim that third side is "within standards" and will only replace two sides of the house. Color has since been discontinued, so I'm stuck. They offered a measly settlement of $3300 on a $13,000 siding job. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT!

Vinyl siding installed 2006, in 2013 noticed siding had faded terribly. Sent in samples twice and received an unsigned letter stating they are unable to extend warranty assistance to me. The "product" is of VERY poor quality. If I had known then, I would not have installed this junk. House looks like hell! I would not recommend this product!!!!!!!!!!!!! would like rate 0 but won't give me that choice

Stay away from this company. They sell under many product names like Associated materials, Alside,Ultraguard, Revere, Preservation, Alpine, etc. probably to confuse consumers. They do NOT live up to any warranty claims. 2 years dealing with my siding peeling. Their solution...paint it. Well, if I wanted paint on my house then why did I spend 20k in the first place for siding.

Terrible customer service in the warranty department. Our siding (vertical board and batten type) is warping after only one year on our new house. Contacted warranty department and they have denied the claim stating it was installation issue even though the installation company has shown me how it is installed properly and slides freely on the nails. The person i spoke with at Gentek (Chrisitne) was very unfriendly was like pulling teeth to get any info out of her. Would not recommend this product to anyone.

The steel facia on my home was installed in 1998 and I noticed that the paint peeling frm it in June 2009. Notified the installing contractor, who inturn, referred me to supplier of product,Norandex. Norandex told me to contact the manufacture,Gentek, and provided thier telephone number. Claim filed with Gentek on October 12, 2010 by telephone. I subsequently received Gentek's claim form, completed same and mailed it to them on December 13, 2010. Claim included photographs, letter from Norandex confirming that the steel facia was manufactured by Gentek and a paint sample of defective product. The installing contractor could not locate the original receipt for the purchase of product from Norandex. Claim was denied by Gentek on February 21, 2011 stating the supporting documentation did not satisfy their requirement for proof of purchase.

This is the worst company to ever deal with. The steel siding on my house started to peel back in 2006. It took almost two years to resolve and they gave me a check for $300 to paint two sides of my house. Now the paint is peeling on the other two sides and I took pictures of the damage in July and filed another claim. In October I hired a person to re-paint my entire house and it cost me $4000.00. I just heard back from Gentek - 6 Months later that I voided my warranty by not getting authorization from them to paint the other two sides. That they acknowledge the defect put I had to wait for their approval to paint and since I didn't - no warranty on the two sides.

*** Just take my word - do not ever purchase anything from this compnay. The warranty deparment will have you jump thru way to many hoops. I had to resubmit pictures, contractor bid information and tax information to them several times - because they would not look at the details on the paperwork and when I would call for a progress update they would state " we were going to mail you a request for clarification on that".

Not worth even calling a lawyer - but it is just the point that they will not do the right thing and stand by their product.

I installed vinyl clapboard on my house, 3 years later 40 % of the color is gone ! I contacted and sent a piece of clapboard to the gentek warranty. It has life time warranty on fading. They sent me my clapborad back and told me that was normal fading. It is very cheap product. And the warranty is a scam. Remember 3 years later not 30... Very cheap product to avoid or to reinstall every 3 years

I have Gentek siding on my home - installed by the previous owner 16 years ago. The paint is peeling in various areas. I do have a warranty but still have to pay a large amount to get the damaged areas replaced. The original siding has been discontinued so I am either left with two different size sidings on my home or pay the full price to get the remainder of my home sided to match. I feel this is a defect and that I should not have to pay anything. When asking Gentek why it is peeling, I never get an answer. I spoke with an attorney and he says the siding company will keep giving you the run around until you give up. I have been dealing with Gentek for 1 year already.

My father has been dealing with Gentek for 18 months. His siding did not peel, but lost alot of shine & luster. Gentek's warrenty states they do not cover fading, even this bad, so they denied his claim. However, the warrenty "does cover non-uniform colour change occuring when conditions result in equal exposure to sunlight", which is what is going on. Still, Eric Wentzel of the claims dept, refuses to do anything about it. I will spend a great deal of time letting people know to avoid Gentek products.

We had Alside Steel Siding installed on our home in 2001 it is chipping and lifting off due to their defective manufacturing process. We have been in contact with them for over a year andall they will do is to repaint it. They say that that is the Only thing they will do. We feel that they should be responsible for selling a defective product and pay for replacement. When you talk to their warranty department they are very pushy as to what they will do and not offer the replacement period. We are sure they knew about this problem and did nothing to correct it, yet kept selling this to the public. Their refinishing also is using regular house paint and only doing the areas that are lifting off, the remaining areas will lift off later so you keep needingto have the house refinished again and agiain. Someone needs too make Gentek replace their defective materials.

We had Alside Steel Siding (Hawthorne Blue color) installed on our home in Casper WY in 2003 and the paint is peeling bad on two sides and I question whether the rest will eventually peel, also. The color is no longer available I am told. Anyway we have been dealing with Gentek for over a year and today all they are willing to do is have us get somone to paint it. I think since this was obviously defective that the whole house be resided in a quality product. There is no way that anyone can paint with the wood grain look that we have or the price would be more than new siding and regardless whether resided or painted the whole house needs to be done to have it all look decent. Have been disappointed in how long all this have taken and have lost confidence in this company and their products.

I PUT GENTEK STEEL SIDING ON MY NEW HOME IN 2004. WITHIN 3 YEARS THE PAINT WAS FADEING AND BLISTERING. NOW IT IS PEELING OFF IN SHEETS. WE HAVE BEEN WORKING TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH GENTEK FOR OVER A YEAR. THEY CLAIM I HAVE NO RIGHTS AND LEGALLY THEY DON'T HAVE TO REPLACE THE SIDING. THEY SAY THEY DISCONTINUED THE COLOR ALSO. I'VE CONTACTED THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND THE SOUTH DAKOTA STATES ATTORNEY AND CONSULTED WITH A LOCAL ATTORNEY. I BELIEVE THEY GROSSLY MISREPRESENTED THE PRODUCT AND SHOULD PAY TO HAVE THE ENTIRE HOUSE AND SHOP RESIDED WITH A QUALITY STEEL SIDING. DEFINITELY NOT THEIRS.

We too have Gentek Steel Siding and it is blistering off. I was told by the original installer that supposedly a bad batch of primer was used and that is why it is blistering. Currently one side of our garage is blistering and it will cost $2000 plus to replace. Gentek is paying 10% of that. Wow!This is a defect of their doing and this shouldn't be happening to Steel siding. No way to fix except replace and they don't make that color anymore. Warn your friends.
