I found this place to be unsafe for myself. I am an alcoholic however I have never been arrested or accused of violence. I was forced to share a room with a woman guilty of a violent offence. I didn’t feel safe and I asked for a new room mate but was refused. I am a person with disability who was put on the top level with no elevator. I also found the pushing of the Salvation Army’s religious beliefs to be inappropriate and very offensive. They are a facility funded by OHIP like any rehab so should not be pushing their religious agenda. I couldn’t stand it and left after two days. I have stayed sober for five and a half years without the Salvation Army or AA.

I’ve stayed their twice a few years ago and they made a huge difference in my life. Every staff was so caring and believed in me. Even though it took me many tries and attempts at success, I truly believe that Homestead helped me in many ways . Especially my counsellor Debb. Thank you. I have work at addiction , mental health and homelessness organization and now in George Brown college for community support worker.
