I had a horrible experience with this clinic. My 11 year old dog, an Afghan, started losing his hair. The vet "diagnosed" her with flea alergy. After 3 months and no improvementg in my dog's hair, I saw different vet and he properly diagnosed her with a Cushing disease. He recommended an ultasound which agreed to just to find out later that it was not really necessary, since there is no effective treatment. Other than standard cancer treatment - the vet was rather pushy recommedning a quite expensive cancer treatment with no consideration of my dog's suffering and overall effectivness of teh recommended treatment. All in all, horrible experience. When she was in pain and could not sleep, they would't even prescribe pain medication or anything to help her sleep. My rating is zero.

I have taken allmy dogs over the years to Cap. Pet Hospital and have never had any problems or complaints with the billing or care. I find the front staff to be helpful and the vets to be caring. I will always be a fan of Cap. Pet Hospital.

I took my pet in and found them to be rather pushy about what they thought I should do. They just wanted to do a lot of testing (which was very invasive and hard for a small dog to endure. She came home sicker than when she went in). They could not seem to give me any ideas about what it could be and got rather miffed when I refused further testing. The front office staff took the same attitude - the final bill was nearly $1,000 but I guess that was not enough. I had to insist on pain relief for my animal. That was not very high on their list of things to do. I got the impression that some of the doctors and techs there do not really even like animals. I thought they were too rough with my little dog as she came home with a limp after being there the second time.

I took my guinea pig to this hospital when she fell ill. She was more than six years old at this time and I noticed that she seemed to be having trouble peeing. Guinea pigs are very prone to bladder stones, and this had happened once before despite feeding her a carefully balanced, nutritious diet. The last time she was sick, I'd taken her to a different hospital and after the treatment she was back to her old self. So I brought her to the Capilano Pet Hospital hoping it wouldn't be any more serious than the last time.

The vet did some tests and had X-rays taken. It turned out to be a large stone that would require surgery to remove. When the vet told me this, I was absolutely devastated and started tearing up. I knew that surgery on small animals is always very risky, and she was an elderly guinea pig. If the surgery was too much of a risk, then I didn't want to put her through the unnecessary pain and suffering. I would have opted to put her down.

I was trying to think through the options when the vet started talking about the price of the surgery. I asked him what her chances would be, and instead of giving me a straight answer, he said, "Well, I understand that people often don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a small animal, so it's up to you if you don't want to."

I was too stunned and upset to realize what an insensitive and manipulative thing he'd just said. All I could think of in response was, "I don't care how much it costs!" There was no discussion of pain management or how long her recovery would take, or how old she already was and whether it might be more humane to put her down. He simply prodded me towards the receptionist (and the cash register), and scheduled the surgery for the next day.

Well... she didn't make it. After the surgery, she woke up from the anaesthesia and then passed away. I will never forgive myself for not asking more questions and being more assertive with the vet. I trusted him, as a professional, to take me through the entire decision-making process and he didn't. Apparently the only matter worth discussing was the depth of my wallet. Even if he did have the best intentions, the fact that he never gave me any reassurances that I was making the right choice for HER means that I'll always regret my decision.

Because of this, I will look for a different vet the next time I have a pet.

Hi, I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved pet. I had 3 dogs and they were all my children and when I lost them, it was more than devasting. Please don't blame your self for doing the surgery, you were only trying to do the best thing for your baby. One of mine had 2 blood transfusions before she passed and the other 2 were so sick, we had to put them to sleep, the HARDEST thing I ever had to do. I hope you find a more caring pet hospital next time, but if I told you what I've been through with doctors for myself in Canada, you would be shocked. This country needs more understanding doctors for all people and pets. God Bless Ellen C.

While the front staff were extremly nice and helpful, the same cannot be said for some of the doctors and especially the manager. My dog had a broken leg and the attending doctor didn't set it properly. The cast had to be redone 3 times, all at my expense. The worst part was the Doctor did not send in the correct information to my insurance company, who consequently denied my claim. My repeated requests to have him correct his error were ignored, he said he couldn't remember what I had said at the appointment, (all the office staff could though). He no longer works there, so I asked the manager to help. The manager was exteamly rude and wouldn't even help me try to contact this vet. Now I am out $1000 and my dog is still limping 1 year later. Be cafeful if you choose this clinic, and make sure you see their reports before they send them to your insurance company.
