The staff are phenomenal. They are welcoming, knowledge, personable, and so much more. Our puppy is always excited to go to the vet. I can’t say enough good things about them!

My story starts on February 2nd of 2016. I've got back home from work and noticed right away that somethings wrong with my dog. He wouldn't touch his food and stay really quiet. It didn't get better so the next day on Wednesday we ended up taking him to Island Veteran Hospital in Richmond. I've been there many times before and trusted them with my dogs health. They checked my dog and told me it's nothing major, it's just a flue. She gave me some pills and collected $500 of me.
Two days later on Friday I ended up going back to the vet because nothing has changed was concerned that my dog has "blowing" since his stomach was swollen, but they told it's not. So he ended up taking an xray and gave me for 10 days water pills. That cost me again $500. The xray was useless because he told me he isn't professional and doesn't have a lot of experience with xrays, so we would have to go to Canada West Emergency in Vancouver. Well that's just typical!
Thank god I ended up at Canada West, because their doctor noticed right away that our dog has water filled in his stomach and a tumor around his heart. His heart was working only 50% the doctor told me.
I'm really upset and frustrated with Island Veteran Hospital for not hearing the difference in his heart beat. Taking xrays for no reason just to make me pay $ 500 and sold me pills for 10 days that I don't even need!
For me it's a rip off, they only think about the money before your dog's health. I can't recommend this clinic at all!
My dog passed away on Saturday. Two different Doctors and no one recognise that's something wrong with his heard. They should be hear the difference and if so maybe he would be still alive.

Having moved to Richmond a couple of years ago, we tried a few Vets and were less than satisfied. That is, until we found the Island Vet Hospital. Their service approach is quite unlike others. Two experienced and qualified DVM's lead a team supported by well qualified (and experienced) veterinary technicians. They provide in-depth consultation and prompt follow-up to tests and visits. We'd like to cite Dr Sarah Dumont and Brittanee in the recent care, diagnosis, and health plan for one of our three cats, who has asthma. These professionals are very sensitive to the cat's needs, knowledgeable about options, and are open to working in a collaborative way with pet owners. I would add that their fees are about average and given the expertise one receives, excellent value. If you want a competent and caring Vet for your pet, this is the place!

I have taken my dog to other vets and been treated well but nothing compares to the way that Island Vet's staff have cared for my dog. The vets and assistants always take their time to explain everything to me and answer all of my questions. My dog was a little over weight and they have helped me bring her to a healthy weight. They did monthly weigh-ins and consultations for free! At other vets I had to pay for this privilege and was not provided half the service and care.

We have been bringing our pets (2cats, 1 dog) to Island Vet for almost 10 years. Dr. Van Duin and all staff at the practice are knowledgable, personable and compassionate. We highly recommend them to everyone we know with pets.

Over the past few years they seem to be more interested in raising exam & re-exam fees by over 30% than anything else. You can get the same quality of care for far less at other Vet's

Recently we had a very sick cat that we had to say good-bye to. The staff here helped me make an informed decision guilt free. They were very attentive to our cats needs, and her lasts moments were peaceful and quick. They consoled me as if I were an old friend and for that I can not say enough to thank them.
I will definitely bring our four legged family members to the hospital for all of our vet needs. I highly recommend them to all who love their pets.

The folks at Island Vet are fantastic and took excellent care of my cat. The place is spotless and is the only pet hospital I have been in that does not smell like cats and dogs. When I went in, I thought my cats days were numbered but they quickly diagnosed a very treatable problem and were supportive by following up once I got home. I Highly recommend!
