The atmosphere is great, especially the enclosed private back patio. The school theme carried through the decor and menu is very charming.

It seems that perhaps the kitchen is not large enough/staffed enough to handle the entire restaurant and patio areas. There are very long wait times for the food.

Again on food, some things are very hit and miss. A lot of great ideas and the menu reads well but the actual execution is not always successful. Eggs Benedict served on slightly stale untoasted Brioche bun is a fail. That is the wrong bread for that dish.

Additionally, we ordered the special pancakes for the day, and unfortunately (when they finally showed up after a long wait) there was a long black hair cooked directly into one of the pancakes! It was very offputting, and we ended up sending that dish back. Although our server confirmed this issue was raised with the manager, and we were not charged for it or our coffee and tea that day as a quick remedy, it seems that quality control needs to be more closely managed.

On service, everyone is friendly, but again there is a long lag at times, and on both occasions, I’ve been to this place two different servers got my drink order wrong. Lack of attention and getting the order right as well as making the customer wait half an hour for something simple (like a coffee or pancake order) is not acceptable.

Additionally, the servers need better training overall on efficiency. Often in an attempt to alleviate the wait time for the food, our sever came by to top up our water, but left used/dirty dishes on our table. Used dishes left for long times welcomes wasps to the area.

Overall, I wish this place could succeed as there is a strong concept, and the menu looks good, but the execution and lack of kitchen support/ quality control needs to be dealt with.

There should never be a hair in the food. The servers also should not have to let the customers wait for extended times due to kitchen backup.

Servers also need better training to be proactive and ensure to clear tables quickly to prevent insects/pests coming.

Overall, if these issues are addressed properly, the business will have a better long-term chance. The dining area and patio spaces, especially the back patio enclosure are all very wonderful places to be in.

I heard so much about this place and really looked forward to giving a try. Poor line management for walk-ins and reservations. Extremely long wait-time for food, it took more than an hour to get our food and other tables later ended up getting served before. The food unfortunately didn’t make up for the wait either. The portions and quality were quite disappointing for the price point especially the fried chicken and waffles. The pancakes were tough and not fluffy quality. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend and suggest going elsewhere.

On Monday, during Victoria Day, I visited this place. We didn’t have to wait for a table, but the food took 35 minutes to arrive. I ordered the black ’n blue flapjacks, and they were quite hard, not soft at all. However, they were decent, so I gave them a 6.5/10. My friend ordered the synonym toast, which was incredibly soft and fluffy, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, giving it a 9/10. I also ordered the hashbrowns with jalapeños and sour cream, which were good too. The drinks were decent, but nothing extraordinary. The portion sizes were small considering the price, and the food was a bit pricey for the taste. Despite a few minor drawbacks, the atmosphere was fantastic and quite cool. I thoroughly enjoyed the vibe and the food as well. It’s just a bit pricey for the quality you get, but that’s all. Overall, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Hands down the best eggs benny I’ve ever had. So fresh and flavorful! I also appreciated the side was salad and not potatoes. Made for a light but very filling meal. I’m already making plans to come back. We came in just after 10am and it hadn’t filled up yet so we could hear each other talk. The food came out quite quickly which I appreciated. Great experience overall

We went to School for breakfast this weekend, and it reminded us why it’s one of the best breakfast spots in Toronto. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Their signature sweet bacon is absolutely incredible — crispy, caramelized, and unlike anything else. The Super Cheesy Bacon French Toast is a perfect balance of sweet and savory, and truly unforgettable. Every dish feels creative and carefully made, which makes School stand out from so many other brunch places in the city. Definitely a must-visit for breakfast lovers.

Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)
The Vibe & Seating
My friend booked this spot for us to catch up after I just got back from vacation. It’s clearly riding high on the influencer hype—there was a line out the door when we arrived. We lucked out and got a table for two right away, but the placement was awkward, right in the middle of the main walkway where staff and customers are constantly passing by. That said, I really liked the school-themed decor; it creates a fun, aesthetically pleasing environment.
The Service
A mixed bag. Our black coffee came out quickly, but the kitchen was incredibly slow. We were both starving by the time our meals finally arrived, which made the long wait even more frustrating.
The Food
Black Coffee: Standard. It came out fast and tasted exactly as you'd expect.
The Pancake: A major letdown. Despite all the online hype, the texture was completely off—it tasted and felt much more like a muffin than a proper pancake.
Waitress's Recommendation: We ordered a savory dish based on the server's suggestion, but it ended up being pretty tasteless. I don't mind a lighter flavor profile, but for the price, it lacked any real seasoning or character.
The Verdict
You're definitely paying an "influencer tax" here. The prices are relatively high for the quality of food you actually get on the plate. It's a great spot for the visual aesthetic and a casual gathering with friends, but between the slow kitchen and the mediocre food, it's a one-and-done for me. I probably won't be returning.

Food is the saving grace, service needs some attention.

Took a long time to get seated even with a reservation, but it was Sunday and busy sure. When we ordered, the waitress first came around for drinks and then for food, so it was just unnecessarily long to break it up when we could’ve ordered both together.

We all ordered either “the safe bet” or the avocado toast special, but when she read back the order it was 5 of the toast even though we only wanted 2. Good thing she asked so it was fixed. But when the food came, it was the wrong dishes so we had to send it back.

From reservation to food it was roughly an hour, which is a long time for brunch food. We scarfed down the food because it was delicious but wish we would’ve had it earlier cause everyone was hungry.

We regrettably recently dined at Restaurant School in Toronto, and unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations. My partner had talked this spot up for weeks, we go for brunch almost every Saturday and Sunday in the city, either as a couple or with friends.

Reservation and Seating
Upon arrival, we had a reservation and were seated in the back room, where the sun was intensely beating down on my partner. We politely requested a seat change, but the server curtly replied, “no, we don’t have any space to move you, other reservations coming in,” without checking with the host. **at this point there were several 4 top and two top tables open a swap could have been made. This left us feeling dismissed. Eventually, the host offered to move us to another table, which we appreciated, but it turned out to be unbalanced. Despite attempts to stabilize it with napkins, we ultimately gave up.

Service
Service was notably slow. After ordering, I waited about ten minutes for the server to confirm our choices, which were not initially written down. We arrived at 11:22 AM, but our food didn’t arrive until 12:18 PM. By this point, I was ready to leave, but my partner, who had fond memories of this place, assured me the food would redeem the experience.

Food Quality
Regrettably, the food did not live up to those memories. I ordered a breakfast poutine, which arrived in a lukewarm mushroom gravy. The potatoes had an unappetizing texture, resembling a soft mushy puck rather than crispy, satisfying bites. While the egg on top was hot, the rest of the dish was a disappointing mix of room temperature and cold components.

Overall Experience
Throughout the meal, we experienced a lack of follow-up from the staff. It took far too long for anyone to check in on us (more than half done our plates) after our food was served.

In the end, we finished our meal out of necessity, we were hungry, as we had planned a busy day ahead. My partner paid the bill and left a tip, but both of us felt disheartened and resolved not to return. The combination of poor service, unbalanced seating, and subpar food made for a regrettable dining experience.

Final Thoughts
While the ambiance and potential of Restaurant School are appealing, the execution on the day of our visit left much to be desired. It's unfortunate, as we were looking forward to a lovely meal.

My good friend and I went out for my birthday brunch at School, a restaurant I’ve visited in the past and previously had a great experience with. Unfortunately, this visit was rather lackluster.

To begin with, we had to wait nearly fifteen minutes past our reservation time to be seated. The staff appeared to be moving at a leisurely pace, despite several available tables that simply needed to be cleared. For a restaurant known for its brunch, the menu felt surprisingly limited.

I ordered the fried chicken and waffles, which, to my disappointment, were nothing spectacular. The use of honey instead of maple syrup was an odd choice and didn’t quite complement the dish. On a brighter note, the blood orange juice was refreshing, and I did manage to sample a bit of the kale salad, which was quite nice.

Overall, this experience fell short of expectations. While my previous visit left me impressed, this one did not. In all honesty, I’m not sure I would return.

We recently visited SCHOOL in Toronto, and it definitely lived up to the hype. We mainly came for the pancakes and chicken & waffles — and they did not disappoint. The service was fast and attentive, but we’d recommend going early or making a reservation since it can get pretty busy.

We ordered their black n blue flapjacks, buttermilk fried chicken and waffles. The Black n’ Blue Flapjacks are a dream for anyone with a sweet tooth. The pancakes were incredibly fluffy and light, perfectly complemented by the berry sauce, brown sugar butter, and whipped cream. The Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Waffles struck the perfect balance between savoury and sweet — with the chicken crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

School Restaurant has such a unique and creative layout — it really lives up to its name in the best way possible. The atmosphere is fun and a bit nostalgic, but still classy enough for a night out. The food is great — everything tastes fresh and thoughtfully made. The service was friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. Definitely a great spot for a date

THE POUTINE!!! was hands down the best, but almost equally enjoyed the Krispy French toast. The latte I had also delicious!

There was paid parking across the street. Loved the laid-back atmosphere.
