Due to the lack of cooking utensils on the battlefield, Mongolian warriors were forced to cook their food over their shields over an open campfire. This practice gave rise to the unique, modern cuisine known as the "Mongolian Grill".

The Mongolian Grill today originated from Mongolian warrior's method of food preparation during long war marches. Due to the lack of utensils, the warriors grilled their food on top of shields over camp fire and discovered this delicacy.
