I always think there's a creative portion to vascular surgery. As technology changes and we have the ability to do hybrid procedures, there's something exciting about planning a new surgery. In nephrology, we help patients with kidney diseases, like kidney stones or different autoimmune conditions that can affect kidney work. Also, we can help patients with high blood pressure. We try to listen to the patient, to hear them and not just treat the disease, but treat the patient as a whole.

I work with patients who have infectious diseases, such as staph, viral infections, infections in the abdomen or issues that occur when their immune systems aren't working quite right. I chose to practice primary care because it gives you many opportunities to create long-lasting relationships with patients. I really like getting to know my patients outside of their medical chart. What does their day-to-day life look like? What are their joys and hobbies? Because those things are so important when it comes to thinking about their overall health.

There's a great opportunity to help people in colorectal surgery. I like to give my patients a safe space to have difficult conversations or express any concerns they have.
