We came here on a Monday night to see Vince & the night Hawks. They gave us good seats and the atmosphere was nice. Our server was really nice. The food was good but we hardly got any protein in our meals. Drinks including bottled soda cost $10. We also ordered guac with plantain chips for $20 and they did not give us enough plantain chips. We asked for more and I was really surprised they charged us another $5 even though they didn't give us enough to finish the guac. They also didnt tell us it would be an extra charge. I recommend just ordering drinks and eating somewhere else for that amount of money.

We attended a performance of the Gil Evans Project’s Miles Davis tribute and we were blown away by the excellence of the musicians, sound quality, and intimate environment with the band.

We also highly appreciated the front door attendant with the mid length brown hair who was so given to world class customer service even though we arrived too early and he was unable to let us in. He definitely cared about our well-being and was super accommodating; instead we chatted with another friendly person in line from Brooklyn.

The food was substantial and tasty. The atmosphere was awesome with the traditional velvet curtain, club table seating, and pictures of jazz artists posted throughout.

The sound quality and ability to be so close to musicians was phenomenal. I would highly recommend and would definitely attend again! Try to be early for the first-come, first-serve seats!

Don’t sit at the bar. Spend the extra $10 and watch the show from a table.

Meatball appetizer was good. Needed a couple more crostinis though.

Very thoughtful intimate and cozy layout. Nice atmosphere. Was a lovely evening of jazz entertainment.

An evening at Birdland Theater is not just a night out—it’s a journey into the soul of New York.

The moment the lights dim, the room transforms into a living stage of emotion, elegance, and rhythm. Velvet shadows, glowing lights, and the quiet anticipation of the audience create an atmosphere charged with magic.

And then—the music begins.
Each note breathes, each melody tells a story. The musicians don’t just perform… they seduce, they captivate, they transport you. Time slows, and for a moment, nothing exists beyond the sound.

The service is seamless, the ambiance intoxicating, and the entire experience feels like stepping into a classic film—timeless, intimate, unforgettable.

If you want to feel New York… truly feel it—this is where you go.

enjoyed by myself, was an amazing experience, as always. Tonight enjoyed terrific jazz interpretations by Anderson twins of the American songbook with swing era textures, color contrast with their different and complementary instruments, uniquely good twin phrasing because they are! Went for the great sound of the room, specifically this music, sax clarinets flute + great backing band including drummer pianist and bass who had their own great solos.

Easy to be alone, requested fringe solo elevated table matching backed chair, highest tier at the back wall near kitchen so decent ventilation, traffic so no stagnant air. Terrific integrated sound at such seating.

Enjoyed the fruit and cheese plate, which was fine to meet the minimum. Kept my mask on as much as possible because 850,000 new cases today of COVID in the USA, still killing, with >80% over 65 y/o and I anticipate returning.

I've been to the Birdland many times but finally decided to write a review.

Overall it definitely worth a stop if you're into the music. Before she passed away I used to come see my favorite pianist Beegie Adair here maybe once a year when she came up.

The place is well organized. Both rooms are great to enjoy music.

The only ding I'll give is the food I've had recently was pretty meh. My buddy got the Caesar Salad and it was pretty weak. My gumbo was ok but the seafood was brutally overcooked. The chips and guac were good though and was recommended by the waitress.

So overall I'd 100% recommend coming here. But I'd also 100% recommend just getting apps here and not planning on a full dinner. I did attend the late show so maybe that affected the food quality.

Excellent venue. Great location. Great music. So so food, but it's a Jazz club with food not a restaurant with Jazz so still 5* for me.

Such a wonderful place with great vibes and tasty food. The live performance by the drummer, pianist, and double bassist was fantastic!
I left my clothes there by mistake, and even though they were busy, a kind lady took the time during the performance break to find them for me. I really appreciated her kindness. I’d love to come back again someday.

We had an amazing evening at this jazz club! The atmosphere was vibrant yet cozy, with incredible live music that set the perfect tone for the night. The musicians were extremely talented and kept the crowd entertained from start to finish.
Dinner was just pretty tasty—we had lasagna and Cajun jambalaya. The service was excellent too: friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience seamless.
It’s not easy to find a place that combines great food, top-notch live music, and a welcoming vibe, but this spot does it all. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a fun and memorable night out!

Finally had the opportunity to see Emmet Cohen perform at Birdland Jazz Club. The club is noticeably more spacious than other jazz clubs, which was a pleasant surprise. Also, if you can arrive early, you get to see some of the greatest talents perform literally a few steps away from the stage.

Cocktails were a little watered down, but met expectations for a jazz club. Nothing too fancy. The one other thing I loved about Birdland was the ambience. The interior felt authentic and genuine.

Fantastic space, incredible lighting and sound system. We were so close to the stage that we could reach out high five the great performer who was there that night, Jeff Harnar, who everyone loved and gave a standing ovation near the end. The food was delicious, and my only gripe I guess would be the surprise of seeing a obligatory tip already baked into the bill. It wasn't so bad because the staff earned it with the good service they provided, still it was a surprise in a little bit annoying. But the tickets were priced very reasonably for the world class, quality entertainment they had. (That Harnar guy can really sing!)

My experience at Birdland was nothing short of beautiful. I attended with my friend to celebrate my birthday and we didn’t have reservations. We were still able to snag great seats and enjoy the show. I got lost in the music, closed my eyes and was transported into another place. I would absolutely recommend a visit here whenever you’re in the city.

Booked a table for dinner at Monday night's Cast Party - it was phenomenal!!! The show began a little slowly, but before I could second guess my decision to go, I was awed by the magnificent talent which appeared one after another. The host, Jim Caruso, was a hoot; and the jazz band backing up all the performers were outstanding themselves.

Amazing experience! Saw a big band play. Loved every minute of it! You can order a full dinner while you’re there plus drinks. Huge portions but a bit heavy. But hey, you’re there for the music right? Service was pretty good - coming by between sets.

Definitely worth making the effort to stop by. Decent bathrooms.

FRIDAY NIGHT.After going to Broadway show Momma Mia, worth walking a quick 10 blocks. A pure diamond. 1030pm jazz show with dinner. We appreciate musicians and they sound absolutely amazing. U feel the music. Best spot to sit is at the intimate round table. Thank you for making my daughter's birthday a special one. We will definitely recommend.

Incredible live jazz with classic New York vibes

Birdland Jazz Club delivers an amazing performance — the musicianship and energy are top-notch, making it a must-visit for jazz lovers. The atmosphere is classic and intimate, though seating is first-come, first-served, so arrive early if you want the best spot. Book your tickets in advance, as shows can sell out.

There is a $20 per person minimum spend on top of the ticket price, and while the food and drinks are okay, the real highlight is unquestionably the music. The crowd adds to the lively, authentic New York jazz experience.

world-class performances in a quintessential jazz setting.

Stepping into Birdland feels like stepping back in time — in the best way possible. The intimate setting, steeped in jazz history, immediately wraps you in warmth and nostalgia. The acoustics are sublime, every note floating effortlessly through the room, making even the quietest ballads feel personal.

The lineup the night I visited was stellar. The performers had a deep connection with the audience, blending technical mastery with heartfelt improvisation. Especially moving was the encore — soft, melancholic, and utterly captivating.

Food and drinks are classic and comforting. While not the star of the show, the service is friendly and attentive, letting the music remain front and center.

If you’re in NYC and crave a night of world-class jazz in a space that respects the tradition while embracing the now, Birdland is a must. Whether you’re a lifelong jazz aficionado or simply seeking an unforgettable evening, you’ll leave with your soul humming.

Attended a Richard Bona concert here and the location was great. Enjoyed the music.

Seating is first come first serve which is a nuance, but it was disclaimer.
Food was nothing to write home about.

Service wasn’t as great and it appeared that they were more interested in making sure that they kept to the time limits of the concert to get people out and usher in the next group.

I come from DC to NYC just for the artists that perform in Birdland. Have been multiple times in Birdland theater downstairs and the main one upstairs. I like both venues. Downstairs is smaller, more personal, but also very interesting artists. For the better table come at least 30min earlier. It’s first come first served rule. Tickets are available for bar and tables (+$10), $20 min order per person. I truly love and enjoy the music and atmosphere.

Wonderful experience. We were looking for a jazz concert and we found that Birdland is a must for intimate Jazz concerts in New York.

There's a minimum consumption besides what you pay for tickets but it's not bad at all.

Great venue.
