Hannah is absolutely the best! Went in to buy an aquarium accessory on July 6th and she took the time to walk us through the options, how to set up each type, and helped us with a 2nd product. She said she if we needed anything just to get her, I can tell she truly enjoys her role and is an asset to the her team. In contrast to the large dark girl with braids at cash who just stared at us blankly at check out and did not say a word. High school attitude. Pity to see other reviewers pointing out issues with the cash register staff as it brings down what is an otherwise wonderful store. Reptiles and fish look healthy and have amazing enclosures. We enjoyed the aquarium section and the corals.

Amazing prices but only some animals are kept in proper care and they still sell tanks that are not suitable for any fish. I saw a short fin koi Betta in a little bowl with sharp fake plants and no filter. While the shrimps beside him had an amazing aquascape with all natural plants. And there's even a large paladaruim + a large tank with a proper set up. The birds are also kept in a small cage with little to no flying room. The staff are very nice and offer tips and they always have amazing sales.

They offered a relatively decent living environment for the animals, put quite some effort in the tank design, and have a large variety of selections.

The only thing I’d say is the fish tank for the shark seems a little tight.

Huge store! Amazed by their selection of dry goods.
There were sick fish in lots of tanks and that’s why the 3 stars. New hobbiest who don’t quarantine could be in for a shock when their fish die. They either shouldn’t sell sick fish or should have a better medication practice for their display tanks.
Also the live stock area is so dark! Why not put in a little more lighting?

I want to take a moment to express how grateful I am for the incredible customer service I received at Big Al’s Pet Store. I originally went in with just the idea of buying a terrarium for my husband, who has wanted a chameleon for a long time, but the experience turned into so much more thanks to Rudy.

From the moment I approached him with a few questions, Rudy was friendly, patient, and genuinely eager to help. He took the time to walk me through every step of setting up the perfect terrarium, explaining all the essentials like lighting, humidity, plants, and proper care. He never rushed me and made sure I felt confident and comfortable with every decision.

What really stood out was how passionate and knowledgeable he is about reptiles and animal care. You can tell he truly loves what he does and wants both the animals and customers to have the best experience possible. Because of his guidance and reassurance, I felt comfortable enough to not only purchase the full setup but also bring home a beautiful chameleon that same day.

My husband was beyond impressed with the setup and all the information I learned, and we both feel so thankful we happened to come in on a day Rudy was working. Employees like him make all the difference.

If you’re considering getting a reptile or any specialized pet, I highly recommend asking for Rudy. Big Al’s is lucky to have someone so dedicated and caring on their team. We will definitely go back !

Big Al’s Pet Supercentre – Brampton / Mississauga

I’m extremely disappointed with how Big Al’s handled my recent experience, and I feel it’s important to share this publicly so other customers are aware.

On October 27, 2025, I made an in-store pre-order purchase at the Big Al’s Brampton location for one cage and two sets of birds. Two payments were processed that day, totaling $1,430.47. At the time of purchase, I was not informed that the Brampton store would be closing permanently the very next day.

The following day, I was contacted and told that the store had closed permanently and that my order could not be fulfilled. I was clearly assured by management that a full refund would be processed within 5–6 business days.

It has now been well over a month, and despite multiple follow-up calls and emails, I have not received my refund, nor have I received any meaningful response from management. I was repeatedly told that someone would get back to me — no one ever did.

This is not a small amount of money. The complete lack of accountability and communication has been extremely frustrating. As a customer, I paid in good faith, followed up respectfully, and provided proof of payment when requested. Unfortunately, Big Al’s has not shown the same level of responsibility.

I am sharing this review not to attack anyone, but to ask for basic accountability and to warn others to be very cautious with pre-orders or large in-store purchases, especially during store closures or transitions.

I sincerely hope Big Al’s corporate team sees this and finally resolves the matter properly.

Big Al’s Aquarium in Mississauga is an absolute paradise for fish lovers! 🐠✨ The moment I walked in, I was impressed by how clean and well-organized the store was. They have an amazing selection of fish—from beautiful freshwater varieties to exotic species—plus everything you need for aquariums, tanks, plants, décor, and high–quality food.

The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about helping customers. They took the time to answer all my questions and gave helpful tips for setting up and maintaining my tank. You can really tell they care about the animals and the hobby.

Whether you’re a beginner or a long-time aquarist, Big Al’s Aquarium is definitely the place to go. Highly recommended!

The store is quite large and very beautiful, they even have birds and lots of reptiles. Despite their fish selection there was quite a few species of fish I did not see there that I would have expected to see in a fish store like black knight ghost fish, green phantom pleco and syno petricola for example. However they did have some other varieties I normally dont see like the vampire shrimp which was nice. The only issue I have was the lack of assistance at some areas in the store, it wasnt overly busy, I had to grab someone at the front counter for some questions about aquarium kits then in the back where the fish stock is the issue was one of the staff talking on the phone while on the floor about sports and TV. Normally I wouldn't mind if I wasnt looking for assistance. I eventually had to have another associate call for someone to come help me. I'll come back again next time im in mississauga so hopefully next time will be a bit of a better experience. Either than that it is a solid store and I will revisit my rating of this store as I get more experiences with it.
