I went in for a rebuild and was later told it wasnât possible so I would need a new transmission. They said to come back after 30k miles to get a free flush. Went back and place is no longer open. âNewâ transmission went bad after a year. Shop said it looks like they did rebuild not a new one, even though I was charged for a new one. Both shop and tow truck company said they would never trust anything from Joe Massey, previous owner from A1, as they said he was notorious for this.

I reviewed this business before but the review has disappeared. At the time we went here 2 years ago the reviews were much more positive. I see now that they are more mixed. Our repair took "only" a couple weeks but the biggest problem was they changed the transmission and reattached the shifter cable out of place so now the gears and the stick don't align properly. They blamed rust and told us if we wanted it fixed properly we would have to change the entire cable assembly for $1100 after we had already paid $2700 for a transmission in our 2010 corolla. The head mechanic told me we were lucky he didn't charge $50 per each rusty bolt. They left one of the motor mount unbolted and failed to reattach the ground wire for the battery properly so the car started having battery issues and not starting. It also developed a leak in the transmission fluid line, but our experience here was so bad I decided to fix it myself even though they offered to fix it. I wasn't able to determine whether the leak was caused by a mistake of theirs or increased pressure from the changed transmission as they claimed. To me that didn't hold much water because the transmission they put it was used not new so I would imagine the pressure was that much different.
The owner seems nice but the service was bad and the head mechanic was a lazy jerk.

Iâd leave zero stars if I could⌠this is a long one, sorry⌠but itâs been an ongoing problem for about 18 months. Highly DO NOT RECOMMEND.
June/July 2023: I chose them because at the time they had GREAT reviews overall. They talked me into a transmission rebuild on my 2015 Tahoe, stating it would be better than a new transmission âbecause it âupdatesâ the transmission kind of like when you update the software on a phone..â.
Cool. Thatâs what we did. Took about 2 weeks total, a little over $5,000, got a 12 month/12k mile warranty.
March 2024 (about 9 months later): getting off the interstate and my transmission completely broke down. I called them and they came and towed my Tahoe at no charge and honored the warranty, and also restarted my 12mo/12k mile warranty⌠they claimed it was just a bad seal that needed replaced⌠awesome! Right?! NOOO!!
January 2025 (about 9 months later, AGAIN):
Gears start slipping between 3rd and 4th. I called them⌠the woman on the phone (whom I found out later was Kristina) said sheâd get with Joe and call me back⌠no one calls me back. So I call them again a few days later and they tell me to bring it in. When I get there, they asked ME if I had a copy of proof of my warranty, because apparently they donât keep their own records of warranties, thank goodness I had mine with me. I left explicit instructions to please have Joe call me after he looks at it and BEFORE they do anything to it. I receive a call the next day thatâs it ready to be picked up. I asked to talk to Joe and Kristina hung up on me.
I arrive to pick up the Tahoe the next day, and I asked to speak to Joe, and was ignored. Kristina hands me my keys and says Iâm good to go. I ask if my warranty is being restarted again and could I have some paperwork for the work they did⌠she said âno itâs not, and thereâs no paperwork.â I ask if I can speak to Joe again and was told he was busy. I asked what was wrong with the transmission this time and Kristina couldnât really give me and answer but said âitâs fixed⌠itâll be fine⌠itâll be fine..â and proceeds to make a phone call.
My mom and I walk out the front door and Joe is unloading something off a trailer. We stop to talk to him⌠he said âI pulled the pan, thereâs no metal shavings, all of that looks good, but the transmission just keeps losing its programming for some reason⌠but I reset it, itâll self-learn and should be good after driving about 250 miles.â We leave. IMMEDIATELY upon pulling out my gears are slipping just as bad as when I dropped it off. I knew right then they did nothing to fix it. About a week later, I was told by another shop I called that programming should be done by the dealership.
About a month later (weather and life and money, I couldnât take it right away)⌠we take the Tahoe to the Chevy dealer to have the transmission reprogrammed. By end of day, Iâm informed by the dealership that the programming is JUST fine and that the trans fluid pump is totally broken and thereâs metal all throughout the transmission and probably even part of the radiator, to the point they recommend REPLACING the whole transmission instead of trying to fix it.
I immediately start calling A1 to inform them the same dayâŚthey wonât answer the phone, they wonât respond to text, and even are possibly ignoring my calls (going to voicemail after 1 ring) all week longâŚ
So weâve already paid over $5k to have this transmission fixed⌠and 18 months later Iâm being told I need a new transmission thatâs going to cost me another $7,000.

Despite the challenge of my vehicle's engine, Joe was faithful to find out what the problem was and did everything that he needed to in order to make a happy customer. I recommend A1 Transmission as a reputable and professional auto repair business. Their customer service and communication was excellent, especially by Tara, and I'm pleased that my car is running great and has no problems. They are honorable and did the right thing in their service and work. I pray God will continue to bless their business and give them favor in helping serve their customers.

I read the reviews here before having my vehicle serviced. I must say I experienced none of the negative things posted here. I guess you can't please everyone.
Joe and his crew were very great to work with. Prices were fair. The work was done well and the time it took was reasonable. I would definitely go back and refer them to others.
