WARNING: Rodent Problem.

I've been storing my belongings in a 10x10 first floor unit here for over 2 years. I'm moving to a new place so went to move my things out and encountered significant rodent damage.

Rodents had chewed completely through my patio set, ruining it. They also chewed through the bottom of my wrapped love seat among other things.

There were mouse droppings and urine all over the unit and it was honestly disgusting.

They charge a premium price for their units (which continued to go up consistently) and I would have been better off storing my things in an outdoor barn.

I was not notified of any rodent issues within the building or I would have moved my things. I also was not informed of the multiple price increases.

Smartstop has been completely non communicative and I would recommend you stay far away from this business.

I’ve rented with them for two years only bc I was not in Toronto. They increased my unit significantly without any notice throughout the time. Today I’m paying around 150 for a 5x5. The mice infestation… there was shit everywhere some people have already posted photos. I spent hours disinfecting my clothes and items. Disgusting. Will never go back there again. Unethical how they didn’t even send us an email about this situation and how it’s being handled. Or else I would have moved my stuff asap.

Artem was very helpful and professional in helping me choose a unit ideally suited to my needs. Also, it happened to be a very busy Saturday, with many other customers, all of whom needed attention, both in person and on the phone, and he handled it all very admirably, with excellent focus and patience.

Also, on my initial visit, a couple of days earlier, another employee, Rasula, helped me, and he was also very courteous and attentive.

This place has the best employees!

Yesterday I visited SmartStop to rent a larger locker to store most of my furniture. Your service person (Marina) was excellent as she understood my problem, immediately located several options close to the loading area and provided very quick service. In 1 year my rent was increased from $300 a month to over $600 a month.

In the contract it states you need a written letter to increase rent. None were sent out.

And then when time comes to settle up for your last month they suddenly don't accept credit cards and demand cash or e-transfer - very strange.

I literally begged them to let me pay by credit card as I don't have cash - and of course no help or courtesy was offered.

Weird business. Looks like they prey on those who are potentially vulnerable and do so in an illegal manner.
