We had purchased ornamental grasses from Terra Some of the grasses did not survive the winter. We took them back and were sniffed at by a nasty low level manager that there is only a 6 month warranty on the grasses
Huh ???
Let me get this straight
We planted in June
The grasses went dormant in December but somehow we should have known that they were "dead" as opposed to sleeping
Sort of like the Monty Python skit with the parrot !!!
Went down the road to Connan
Spent a solid hour with the tree lady ( sorry don't remember her name ) and bought a new strain of Japanese maple we named Shania.
We received so much quality service I thought that our new addition would come with a birth certificate !!!
Great people. Dude told me to plant clover to keep the rabbits off our new garden planting
Goodbye Terra
Hello Connan
A little bit of nice goes s long way
I'll send a photo of Shania once I figure out how to do it with a phone

might be cheaper price compared to other places, but you get treated like lucky we are talking to you, especially the managers. The young staff are trying to be nice. They change their delivery policy as they go, when you are selecting some plants, their sales staff inform you free delivery but and when you check out they surprise you with the delivery charge and attitude from the manager like don't even try to ask why they changed their mind. You pick a plant and when delivered you get a different one ... that's nearly dead.

this is a well stocked and nicely laid out nursery, and the positives end there.
Customer service is spotty, and nursery workers are no rush to help. No one suggested getting someone to help us carry bags of soil to the car, not one offered to get someone to lift a heavy shrub.
the only reason I will go there is because it is the only local nursery to stock the Sea buckthorn trees.

A feeling of superiority and lack of consideration for the customer from staff/management. Rather than keep a customer coming back they will run you out any chance they can to get out of honouring the plant warranty if they can find a reason. A plant that will not recover or establish itself which is clearly visible to a gardeners eye, will only garner disdain and a refusal to replace. The cost of a replacement is so minimal to them yet they would rather string it along and permanently lose my business let alone the countless people who hear this story first hand. Such a backwards look at customer service. An old school approach to dealing with customers that will not bode well for the future. Please your customers even when you feel they are mistaken, and you would be rewarded tenfold. Never again.

We are so sorry for your warranty experience here at Connon Nurseries. We are proud of our industry-leading 3-year warranty on EVERYTHING that we grow, and our seasonal warranty on the semi-hardy nursery stock. One of the reasons for the length of our warranty is that we always encourage our customers to give plants the best chance of taking root and establishing itself before producing more healthy growth. If your situation was such that it was struggling and had a great chance of bouncing back, sometimes replacement is delayed instead of using up your warranty too early. We would love to discuss this further with you!

I had a horrible recent experience with this nursery. The first time we went to Connon was last year. We had gone there to make an appointment for a consultation with a landscape designer to design our flower beds. We were told it would cost $75/hour for this and to email pictures as well as flower bed dimensions so a sketch/design could be done and then they would walk around the nursery with us to discuss plants/flowers, etc. The day before our consultation, we emailed multiple pictures as well as a sketch of our flower beds and dimensions to the designer. When we got to our appointment, we were told we never emailed anything to the designer, which I had shown the sent email to them on my phone...we basically sat with the designer while she drew a sketch of our garden for the whole hour (which we had already done and sent via email). After doing this, we walked around the nursery with the designer, which was about another hour. After we were done, we were told it would cost double since the designer had to sketch our beds and didn't fit everything into the first hour. At the cash we asked to speak with a manager, however wasn't able to at that time, so we paid and called the next day to speak with a manger.
The manager, Brad, understood and apologized for the inconvenience and agreed to refund us half the cost ($75) via store credit. We agreed to this. We asked if we could use the credit for the next summer (2015), and he said this was fine. We called spring of 2015 to ensure he still remembered our situation and the agreement of the ($75) and he advised he still remembered for when we go there this summer. Last Saturday, we decided to go to Connon to purchase plants, and called Brad to ensure he was in to be able to honour the store credit. He refused and said the conversation never happened and we were only advised that he would give us the $75 credit only if we spent a minimum of $500!! We would have never agreed to this at the time. He told us "we were telling him what we think we remembered", basically implying we were making it up and lying. We were planning on spending well over $250 there that day, which he had no problem with losing that business over a $75 credit. I told him to pull the phone call, but fortunately for them, they don't record calls. I explained to him this is not what good customer service is and he then advised they have many happy customers. I asked for the owners name and number and left a message with him only to not received a call back. Connon was great at first impression, but this specific experience and horrible resolution will leave us with a rotten image of this nursery unfortunately. Will not be going here ever again and I hope no one has a negative experience here because customer service is clearly not at the top of their list of company priorities.

Dear customer, we are very surprised and disappointed to have read this review. Over 200 hand-sketch landscape designs are completed each year, and many rave about the low cost for such professional service! On our website: www.connon.ca in the Resources tab, we clearly outline the fees for our service, including the $75 refund after $500 in purchases (a "Thank-you" to our purchasing customers!). I'm sorry that the communication wasn't strong in this regard, and we would love the opportunity of earning your business back. Perhaps we could start by completely refunding your design fees?
By Connon Nurseries Ltd
Hi, I appreciate the response - it's quite the surprise as I had given up on this and figured I wouldn't be getting a reply back. That would be very kind and I would appreciate that very much. I don't have any doubt your landscape designs are to par and you've had happy customers, but unfortunately, ours wasn't a very pleasant experience and was hoping something was done about it at that time, but the manager didn't seem to care about the issue we had or losing the business. The design fees cost us a total of $150.00 - will this go back onto my VISA? Is there someone specific I should ask for when I go there? Thanks again for the kind gesture - I will definitely consider going back to Connon and this is proof that there are still kind people out there that care about their customers and loyalty! Thanks again! Tanya

I have had the pleasure of working at Connon Nurseries for the past year and enjoy coming to work every day. My co-workers are friendly and very knowledgable. I recently worked with one of our designers to create a beautiful front yard landscape design. My husband and I are in the midst of planting fresh, hardy nursery stock from Connon Nurseries. I'm so excited to see the project completed. Prior to working at Connon Nurseries, I was introducted to the company by a local landscape contractor who took me to Connon's Robson Road Farm Sales Yard. The display of nursery stock is truly impressive. I quickly became a loyal customer and, now, an employee.

In this world of negativity and social media, it seems that a couple of people always try hard to taint the true picture. Well, my wife and I LOVE this place. Their selection of plants is the largest we've ever seen, and the prices are always fair. Last year we had a landscape design & consultation done with Karen, and she was fabulous! After a quick sit-down in their tropical greenhouse, she walked us through the plants that she suggested and we put the order together. Delivery was prompt, and now we have a yard full of plants all backed by their 3-year warranty! We will definitely return for our spring flowers, and we're constantly referring our neighbours and friends to this professional business. Thank-you Connon Nurseries!

We decided to get our plants for our new garden in Toronto from this nursery. We were impressed by their wonderful website and huge variety of plants. We met with one of their consultants and had a wonderful experience. She was very knowledgeable and recommended certain varieties for our small space. We were promised to receive a plant list (proposal) in the next 3 days. This did not happen. We called again a week later but the consultant wasn’t working that day. We sent two e-mails without getting any response! After two more calls we found out that the consultant had been sick. One would think that someone at the firm what have informed us! The plant list we finally received was confusing and did not even have the correct amount of plants (they were unable to do this by e-mail and we only got it by fax). The day before delivery we were informed that some varieties are not available but we would get something that is very similar. The consultant was not able to give us a delivery time but said it would possibly be between 10-11 am since delivery to Toronto would be in the morning. The driver would call before delivery. After sitting at home all day and trying to keep the phone line open I had enough and called them shortly before 4 in the afternoon. Was told that I will get the delivery today. Hey, the driver arrived at 7:10 pm!!!! The invoice was again very confusing and the driver and I spent some time just to identify the plants and find them on the invoice. I have never experienced such bad customer service! My advice to you: do NOT use Connon Nurseries if you live in Toronto! You can buy the same plants in local nurseries and avoid the high delivery charge. If you live close to Waterdown….well good luck.

Connon Nurseries claims to give a 3 years warranty on tree and plants . Be forewarned, you need to be sure what you bring back is unmistakenly dead or they will not honor the warranty.I tried to return an Emerald Cedar that I had purchased only 2 months before. It was obviously not surviving so I removed it because it was an eye sore on my property . The first person I spoke with told me they don't take back trees or plants that have been planted. That made a lot of sense . They then called someone else who proceeded to tell me that I had killed the tree by pulling it out . Then the manger came and said they would not honor the warranty because the tree was not totally dead when I pulled it out of the ground. Botton line. I have spent thousands of dollars that the nursury and they were not willing to cough up $57 for a sick tree they sold me. I will never shop there again .
By Connon Nurseries Ltd
Good afternoon, we are sorry to hear of your experience in returning an Emerald Cedar. Emerald Cedars host a generous 3-year warranty, and a great customer who spent thousands of dollars with us (Thank-you!) would certainly have been looked after if it was sick or dead. There are times when a plant is returned but only a light pruning was needed. So instead of using up your warranty, at times we recommend re-planting. Perhaps this was the case? We would love to discuss this further with you!

After reading the above comment, I felt obligated to write a response. I was so impressed with the products and services offered at Connons. The staff were very knowledgeable and went above and beyond to help me locate the plants that I required, and the selection of nursery stock was SO fresh and beautiful! We also had a yard of Triple Mix delivered and it was nothing but the best! I will definitely return to Connons again, and will recommend this garden centre to family and friends.

By Mich11981 on June 6, 2011 Verified by Email
This is the worst nursery ever. They deliver top soil that they call "triple mix" which is nothing more then a sand/clay mixture. Then when questioned on it they lie and give you nothing but attitude by saying the "Customer is not always right" and that if you complain "you are being a sore loser". Furthermore, they refuse to come pick up the bad soil provided and simply tell you to return it on your own for a full refund. If you want to get ripped off then by all means shop at this nursery. If you are looking for quality top soil and a company that stands behind their product then you better look elsewhere. I will NEVER shop there again.

Good afternoon customer. We are disappointed to have read this comment, and we're sorry for your experience. We're also surprised too since for the last 4 years, we've been given the Reader's Choice award for "Best Soil Supplier". Sometimes after subsequent days of heavy rainfall, soil can become quite clumpy and then appears to be clay in substance. After a drying out period, the clumps rake out beautifully. Was your delivery subsequent to a rainstorm?

Good afternoon, we are sorry to hear of your experience in returning an Emerald Cedar. Emerald Cedars host a generous 3-year warranty, and a great customer who spent thousands of dollars with us (Thank-you!) would certainly have been looked after if it was sick or dead. There are times when a plant is returned but only a light pruning was needed. So instead of using up your warranty, at times we recommend re-planting. Perhaps this was the case? We would love to discuss this further with you!
