Can’t say enough about the staff here at Hotel Shattuck. We were booking same day on a busy weekend for a friend’s wedding as our first hotel had a problem with the original reservation so we were in a bind. Quee and Anthony greeted us, helped us find a good deal, and the best room, got us checked in early so we had plenty of time to get ready for the wedding, and then later sent a cot up to the room which made a huge difference for our stay. They were very patient, helpful, genuinely personable and kind. Especially Quee she helped us the most, but all the staff were great.
As it’s a historic hotel the rooms are on the small side like some people have noted, but everything was clean and nice and they responded to any needs we had promptly. The location is great and we were able to take a nice morning walk to campus and get a bite to eat. Thank you for providing a great stay!

I’m actually staying here right now. Let me start by saying if you’re looking in the area, decent choices are very limited so this may be the best of the worst. With that said the pros: service seems to be friendly and pretty good. Also location is not bad for what you might want in Berkeley. Cons: the hotel is old. The rooms are not very clean, linens look old, linens and towels have unidentifiable stains or at least I hope they are stains and not just dirty. Toiletries are completely empty, clearly no one even looked at them. Wallpaper is peeling and carpets are in dire need of a cleaning. The worst part though is the air conditioners do not work. They literally blow warm air. Probably have never been charged. We brought it to the attention of staff twice and nothing has been done. Makes for a miserable sleepless night when warm air is blowing on you in the middle of summer. I’ll never stay here again and if any of the things are important to you, I suggest you reconsider as well. Also note, I booked a suite thinking I would get a slightly elevated experience. That clearly didn’t happen.

I absolutely loved this hotel. Every detail was beautiful and thoughtfully designed. The atmosphere felt as if I had stepped into the Victorian era, full of elegance, luxury, and charm. I truly adore this style of design, and it made my stay very special.

It felt as though a lady with exceptional taste had personally overseen every detail of this place. The furniture selection was incredibly refined and sophisticated, and I found myself taking countless photos because everything was so stunning.

I would like to thank the owners for their wonderful sense of style and attention to detail. When I traveled to another state, I actually looked for the same hotel, but unfortunately I couldn’t find one. I sincerely wish this hotel had locations in every state because it is truly a unique and memorable experience.

Highly recommended, and I look forward to staying here again in the future. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Quality service, rooms are really comfy. Food is great. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Good location being next to a BART station. Will definitely stay here again if I come back to the Bay Area!

Important things to know: this hotel is dog friendly and may have the best customer service ever.

Housed in a beautiful building with gorgeous architecture, Hotel Shattuck perfectly blends historic charm with comfort. Some people think “historic” means old and rundown—absolutely not. Here, it means clean, beautiful, and full of original character.
The restaurant, Zino, is fresh and delicious, with excellent service from Carly—thank you, Carly! The hotel staff truly goes above and beyond. We used valet parking, and although I’m sorry I forgot your name, you were absolutely the best.
The area offers plenty of dining options, and there’s a Target just across the way should you forget a sweater or toothbrush. The BART station is also conveniently nearby.
Berkeley has personality, so the streets can be lively, but I have never felt unsafe. The people and location are truly great. Highly recommend Hotel Shattuck!
