I walked into El Rey on my way to Rowdy Rooster because the huge plates coming out of the kitchen caught my attention. They looked incredible, so I figured I’d give the place a shot. That was a massive mistake.
I ordered the T-bone steak, and what showed up was an absolute disgrace. It was loaded with gristle, cooked way overdone/trash when asked medium rare, and looked like it had no business ever leaving the kitchen. I’ve had better steaks from a gas station than what El Rey thought was acceptable to serve a paying customer.
The only reason this review isn’t one star because of the service alone. The staff was friendly, attentive, and deserved far better than the food they were forced to bring to the table.
The kitchen, however, should be embarrassed. If the owners have any pride in their restaurant, they need to take a hard look at what’s coming out of that kitchen because it’s unacceptable. Charging people for food of this quality is insulting and stealing. I left disgusted, disappointed, and with absolutely no reason to ever come back. Save your money and eat somewhere that actually respects its customers. Beer tasted good though.

Could be our new favorite Mexican restaurant. The salsa was not so good, but the enchiladas with Tinja was really good. Caldo de res soup was fun to eat. Be prepared for big portions. Don't know if just tonight, the margarita was very strong. Nice comfy atmosphere.

First all they have old fashions on the menu. Why would I get olives in an old fashioned. They didn't have makers that is on the menu but used some rot gut they had handy and tried to charge me for what was on the menu. Also the menus that are in the pictures are not current. They do not have the taco Tuesday special anymore. This was the only reason I tried this place. Never going back.

Place inside was nice as can be. service was good. but the food was not good. tacos asada meat was like eating steak bites instead tacos. and we spent a lot of money on this order. Flautas was not it and dried up meat. i miss my tres hermanos but if you want great authentic tacos go visit palos tacos. asada meat is sliced and chopped to perfection and taste great and the tortillas are not dried up

We stopped here for lunch and had an excellent meal. El Rey has an extensive menu with many options. They also have a large cocktail menu. We enjoyed guacamole, pulpo tacos, and ribeye steak. Everything tasted great and the portions were generous. Our service was friendly and attentive as well.
