La Salumeria is one of those places that reminds you why small, independent food spots can be so special. I had heard good things before visiting, but I genuinely wasn’t expecting to be this impressed. Without exaggeration, this was one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in Toronto — and I’ve tried a lot of sandwich places around the city.

The first thing that stands out is the freshness and quality of the ingredients. The bread was incredibly fresh, with exactly the texture you want in a great Italian sandwich — substantial enough to hold everything together but still soft and fresh enough that it doesn’t overpower the fillings. You can immediately tell that quality matters here. Everything tasted fresh, balanced and carefully put together rather than simply piled onto bread.

And then there are the sandwiches themselves. Absolutely divine. The combination of the meats, cheese, vegetables, spreads and fresh bread just works. Every bite had flavour, and nothing felt unnecessary or overdone. There’s something very satisfying about a place that doesn’t need gimmicks or overly complicated combinations because the ingredients are good enough to speak for themselves. This is exactly that kind of place.

What made the experience even better was the gentleman making the sandwiches, who I believe is the owner. Such a genuinely great guy. Friendly, welcoming and clearly passionate about what he does. There’s something different about having your food prepared by someone who seems to genuinely care about the product and the people walking through the door. He made the experience feel personal rather than transactional, which is becoming increasingly rare in Toronto.

The only slightly less positive part of the visit was the interaction at the cash. The cashier seemed a little upset or perhaps was simply having an off day, so the energy there didn’t quite match the warmth and friendliness coming from behind the sandwich counter. Everyone has their days, though, and I wouldn’t let that take away from what was otherwise an excellent experience.

Most importantly, the food is the reason I’ll be coming back. Toronto has no shortage of places claiming to make a great Italian sandwich, but La Salumeria deserves to be in the conversation about the very best. There’s a noticeable difference when you combine really fresh bread, quality ingredients, generous flavours and someone behind the counter who knows exactly how to put it all together.

It also has that authentic, neighbourhood feel that is becoming harder to find. It doesn’t feel manufactured or designed simply to look good on social media. It feels like a place that has character, where the food itself is the main attraction. You walk in for a sandwich and leave already thinking about what you’re going to order the next time.

If you’re in Midtown Toronto and love a proper Italian sandwich, La Salumeria is absolutely worth visiting. Come hungry, get one of their sandwiches, and appreciate just how good something as simple as fresh bread and quality ingredients can be when it’s done properly.

Honestly, the sandwiches are exceptional. Fresh bread, incredible flavours, quality ingredients and a wonderful owner who makes you feel welcome. Easily one of my favourite sandwich experiences in Toronto and a place I will definitely be returning to. Highly recommended.

Italian store well stocked with a large variety of cheeses and cured meats in addition to important items sometimes hard to come by in other places. This store also offers freshly made sandwiches which are a must try’s they have a variety of options but their special is in high demand. You can also make it your own.

I tried their Italian house special sandwich and it was incredible. The savory, salty richness of the premium cold cuts paired with the sweet, rich fig jam created the perfect flavor balance. The bread was fresh with a great crust, and the ingredients were clearly high quality.

The best sandwich I’ve had in my entire life.

I ordered the House Special Sandwich, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The process starts by choosing your bread, which makes the sandwich feel even more special.

The combination of fresh bread, premium Italian meats, cheese, and their incredible house spread was absolutely perfect. Every bite was packed with flavor, and the ingredients tasted incredibly fresh.

The shop itself has an old-school Italian deli atmosphere and a lot of character. Friendly service and amazing food. This place is a hidden gem in Toronto.

I will definitely be coming back every time I visit the city. Highly recommended!

Words can’t describe the experience it is to bite down on one of those sandwiches. This place was a very well hidden gem!
Upon entering, you are under the impression that the place is a simple deli counter. However, you must go to the very end of the store to find these heavenly sandwiches. The service is amazing, feels like family.
I am truly grateful to have stopped by; will most definitely be one of many visits.

Easily one of the best sandwich shops in Toronto. Ordered the Ernesto special this time around. If I recall correctly it comes with prosciutto, motadella, provolone, lettuce, salami.. and muffuletta spread (chopped green/black olives, giardiniera (pickled vegetables), olive oil, garlic, capers, and spices). I usually go for their house special, but this might be my new favourite.

It's not often you find the service like you do here - welcoming, friendly, helpful and quick. Good quality food for a good price. It can get very packed in here. There is no menu but everyone knows of the "house special" filled with spicy sopressata, mortadella, balsamic, and fig like jam. There is no menu but you can ask to build a sandwich of your choice, you just need to know what you want/like. The ordering starts with you choosing the bread near the front counter before you bring it to the deli. The house special goes for $16.50 as of April 2026.

I also enjoyed the plentiful pate offerings here where you can buy by weight. Cheese. Meats. Pate. Oils. Many many options in this grocery store mixed deli.

Quick update:
I went back and got ciabatta bread, and add more to the to the house special, this was one of the best sandwiches I ever had. This place is a local gem. Highly highly recommend it.

The sandwich was amazing, taste wise. It was very on point and everything and it was awesome. The only thing I didn’t like was the bread, it just seemed it wasn’t the best choice for the house special, but it was my first time and I didn’t know to order it with ciabatta and added mortadella. There’s always next time which I will be there for sure. ;)

The best sandwich I have ever had in my life. I got the classic house special sandwich which was great then I came back and made a custom sandwich and it was life changing. The ingredients are so fresh and it is worth every penny and more. The owner and staff are so lovely as well. This place is truly a gem that deserves all the hype.

I’ve seen this shop recommended on Reddit plenty of times, so naturally, I had to try it myself!

The House Special was sooooo worth it. Even if you pick a small bun, they stuff it to the fullest. All the fillings complemented each other that every bite was just delicious.

Honestly, it’s the best sandwich shop I’ve been to in Toronto so far!

I’ve heard for ages that La Salumeria serves some of the best Italian sandwiches in Toronto, and I finally made my pilgrimage. I practically raced against the clock, sliding through the doors with only 5 minutes to spare before closing.

Despite the late hour, the women working were absolutely incredible. They weren't just accommodating; they were genuinely happy to make my "house special" sandwich dreams come true.

The Sandwich:
I am still savouring the experience. The bread was exceptionally fresh, and the flavour profile was a total surprise. It was an orchestra of spicy, sweet, and creamy—layers of spicy sopressata, fresh mozzarella, tangy balsamic, and a sweet jam that tied it all together ❣️

The Shop:
While they prepared my order, I browsed their selection of authentic Italian imports. It’s a goldmine! I even scored a high-quality panettone at a great price.

I felt truly taken care of here. The hospitality reminded me so much of my time in Rome. This Bella is here for it!
Highly recommended.

The shop is unique and offers good quality food, but there is a lot of room for improvement if they want to attract new customers. They could display their house specialty ingredients on the wall and list more cold sandwich options, similar to a menu. It’s also not clear that customers should choose their bread at the front before ordering their sandwich. Overall, it was worth trying and it’s a great shop.

Been following this place forever and finally tried a sandwich for the first time.. They did not disappoint.. Wow.. Definitely surpassed my expectations.. I have to admit.. Probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had.. And I've had a lot of sandwiches.. So fresh.. So good.. No wonder they've been around for 40+ years.. Place is cute with a lot of European imports.. Also.. Carlo the owner is amazing.. This place is a must try in my opinion.
