My staple sushi place in western MD, often outshined by Maki across the street imo Niwano Hana has amazing choices for vegetarian people w extensive veg options that are not just a cucumber avocado roll but actually rolls that have effort and creativity put into it. Everything on their menu is a hit and I love how sweet all the staff is. Would highly recommend.

Delicious fresh sushi, excellent udon and tempura! Loved the bento box for lunch. Great location, easy parking. My family has been going to this restaurant for many many years and it's always good!

I’m honestly extremely disappointed with my experience at Niwano Hana.
I placed an order through Uber Eats for pickup, and when I arrived at the restaurant literally one minute before the scheduled pickup time, my order was suddenly canceled. I walked inside to ask what happened, and the hostess first told me there was no such order. After checking, it turned out the restaurant had canceled it because of an extra request we made on the sushi, which they said would require a small additional charge.
That alone was frustrating, but what made it worse was the way the situation was handled. I told them I had no problem paying the extra amount and asked if they could simply remake the order. The hostess initially said yes, but then the cook, Mitch, started yelling from the kitchen that he didn’t want to make it. His tone was aggressive, disrespectful, and completely unacceptable toward a customer.
It felt like the kitchen had closed early and instead of communicating that professionally, they chose to cancel my order at the last minute and treat me like I was the problem. I left the restaurant embarrassed, disrespected, and honestly shocked by the way I was spoken to.
What makes this even more disappointing is that I have been coming to Niwano Hana for over 9 years. I have supported this place for a long time, and I never expected to be treated this way over a simple extra request that I was fully willing to pay for.
Unfortunately, after this experience, I don’t see myself coming back.
A loyal customer should never be treated with that level of disrespect.

Our party of four visited Niwano Hana recently for dinner. Overall, the food was the highlight of our evening. We ordered the bento boxes, California rolls, and the Lava roll, all of which were fresh and flavorful. The drinks were also well-prepared; the plum wine was a treat but the portions could have been more in size compared to price.
We found the restaurant to be quite congested. Our table for four felt a bit small for the number of dishes we ordered, making the dining space feel cramped.
We truly enjoyed the flavors of the meal and the quality of the sushi, but a bit more attention to service pacing and seating layout would have made it a five-star experience. We’d love to come back if the dining environment felt a bit more relaxed!

Been going here since 2008. Still great. Black & Red roll is unique and my favorite roll ever. Bento selection is solid and reasonable for weekday lunching.
Some of the best sushi on the Pike with lots if really solid rolls and kitchen dishes. Never disappoints. I want to go again now actually...
