Went to the ER with chest pain. Sat for almost 6 hours and was never seen by a doctor. Around me were over 30 people suffering from head injuries, kidney stones, and other painful and serious ailments and nurses and doctors didn’t bother to check on them or expedite them either. One of the nurses was too busy breaking HIPPA laws and sharing private medical information about patients and gossiping instead of actually helping anyone.

Today they called me and asked why I left before being taken back. I told them and they did not care at all. It’s clearly normal for them. They asked me if I would come back, and why would I? No one helps you if you have a serious or scary issue. You ask for ETAs from triage nurses and registration, and they are clearly instructed to fudge the estimated wait times. I was told I would be expedited and seen within an hour. 5 hours went by and my name was never called. I was told the triage nurses had sent messages to doctors requesting an IV and medication for me. None ever came. None of the doctors ever responded to their messages. It’s not the nurses fault. They are working so hard. 2 nurses worked the entire ER waiting room. They’re not set up for success.

Harford County really needs to invest in expanding that ER and finding more staff for the hospital. Multiple people in the ER were talking about how they regretted coming there and that they should have just gone into the city because maybe they would have been seen in a timely manner. I agree with those people. I do not sleep better at night knowing that hospital is down the road in the event I would need care.

I was transported via ambo from darlington to umuc on 6/9/26 with DKA and chest pain. Let me start with there is not enough stars for me to rate eaxh individual i came across but everyone from EMS, ER staff, ICU staff, health and nutrition, custodial, imaging, and the room itself. The one on one conversations, the quick responses, and the care i recieved was heart warming and proffesional at its finest. From sacraficing thier own meal to keep me from having to low of a Blood Sugar reading to keeping my chest pain at a min. You guys were all amazing and truely showed up and out. They will all know me as charles reed rm 222. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and you all derserve nothing but the best.

My experience at University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center was deeply disappointing and honestly disturbing.

I came to the Emergency Department after sustaining a fall outside my home that resulted in a mild concussion and contusions to the left side of my body after hitting my head against the brick wall of my porch. Instead of being treated with compassion, professionalism, and proper concern for a head injury, I was made to feel dismissed, degraded, and stereotyped.

Because I arrived in pajamas and slippers — clothing I was wearing at home before my accident — I felt I was immediately judged and treated as though I was less important or less deserving of care. The physician who attended to me spoke to me in a condescending and disrespectful tone that no patient should ever experience, especially while suffering from a head injury and physical trauma.

What hurt most was not just the physical pain, but the lack of humanity and empathy shown during one of my most vulnerable moments. Patients should never be made to feel unintelligent, unworthy, or invisible because of their appearance, race, or circumstances.

Unfortunately, this did not feel like an isolated incident. Too many people from melanated and marginalized communities have shared similar experiences regarding dismissive treatment and unequal care within medical settings, and that conversation needs to be taken seriously.

Emergency rooms are stressful environments, and I understand healthcare workers are under pressure. However, stress does not excuse poor bedside manner, lack of compassion, or treatment that leaves patients feeling humiliated instead of cared for.

I hope this review encourages leadership to take a deeper look at patient care, communication, implicit bias, and how people are treated when they walk through those doors. Every patient deserves dignity, respect, and attentive medical care — no matter how they arrive or what they look like.

I was recently admitted to the 3rd floor for almost a week. When I arrived at the ER (I was in bad shape) I could barely walk and was very incoherent. As I was checking in the receptionist was so understanding and before I could finish signing my paper work I had to make nurses (I wish I could remember their names) already checking my vitals and getting a baseline history. I was immediately taken to the triage room where I had an IV placed and labs drawn along with an EKG. I was then immediately taken to a room in the back and within minutes triaged by a provider. They were all so genuine and really showed they cared. Once a room opened upstairs I was admitted to room 399. Doctor Chang was so sincere and once again seemed like he just wanted to help. However, I have to give credit to all of the nurses and techs who truly gave me the best care. One nurse I have to shout out is nurse Devin, she was an absolute rockstar and made me feel comfortable in a not so great time. Nurse sandy during the day shift was equally as amazing. House keeping was incredible and the food service department especially Randy we’re amazing as well. I feel like this hospital only hears the bad but I wanted to share how amazing everyone was from start to finish during a scary time in my life. I will be forever grateful for the entire team.

To the amazing doctors, nurses and staff who treated our Dad on January 15th and 16th 2026 in both the emergency room and ICU. You are all angels! Thank you for the compassionate care you provided our Dad in the final days of his life. Your kindness, humanity and expertise meant more to our family than can be put into words. In our hardest moments, you brought comfort and dignity and helped make an unbearable day a little easier. We will always be grateful for the care you showed not only to our dad, but to our family as well.
