I've got a multi-faceted review.

If you are tax-payer funded, ie, you yourself are not paying a cent and the state is paying for you, I recommend it. Especially if you are a recovering addict: This program was made specifically with you in mind. The counselors and staff are all familiar with your struggles. There is no shame here; only acceptance and sympathy.

If you are someone who struggles with poor mental health...well, that is for you to decide.

I was here for the month of December, 2025. Writing a review now because it's been on my mind. I had soul crushing depression. I had vivid fantasies of slitting my wrists at work (I work with knives). I know I needed help. But getting time off for my grocery store job is hard, and I had limited PTO. So when my PTO ran out, I was unpaid.

This program cost me, WITH INSURANCE, 500 dollars a week. Now, I'm not saying that is a bad number; they bought us lunch everyday from great places, and the staff are worth the money. But that is still an insane amount of money for someone who works at a grocery store.

I was there for two weeks, and I never once had a private session with my therapist. I wanted to know what my recovery would look like; what therapies I needed to focus on. All I had were group sessions, with people of varying mental health disorders. Sometimes one person would monopolize the entire session, and the rest of us are just there to smile and nod.

And I mean, thats all well and good, but for someone like me; I had a time limit. I couldn't stay out of work. The gas money driving from Gulf Shores to Spanish Fort every single day was getting insane.

And then I had my birth control implant removed. A week later? My soul crushing depression was gone. It was like a light at flicked on in my head. The stones covering my chest lifted. And I realized the entire time it was in fact hormonal.

That isn't to say I don't struggle, but all in all, I was disappointed with the timeline, the chaotic-ness of the mental health section of the clinic, and the fact they did not have adaptive payment for someone such as myself that is unable to get tax-payer benefits because I make too much, while also being under the national poverty line.

Longleaf Recovery in Baldwin County is an outstanding addiction treatment and recovery center. From the first call, the staff was compassionate, professional, and truly invested in long-term recovery.

The clinical team is knowledgeable, supportive, and takes a personalized approach to treatment, whether it’s detox, residential care, or ongoing recovery support. The facility itself is clean, well-maintained, and provides a safe, structured environment that really promotes healing.

If you or a loved one is looking for mental health care or a drug and alcohol rehab in Baldwin County, Alabama, I highly recommend Longleaf Recovery Baldwin. They genuinely care about their clients and make a real difference in people’s lives. This is a top-tier recovery center in South Alabama.

When I first got there, I had the attitude of “This is useless and I just want this to be over with and go on with my life. This hippie crap isn’t for me. The councilors don’t know me and don’t care so Good Lord, just let this be done.” Boy was I wrong. They worked with me and were patient with me and met me way more than half way in terms of my physiological and psychological care. As I kept attending, and that’s just what I was doing, I started to notice that they really did care about my success and my psychological growth as well as my physiological wellbeing. Then I noticed that I started to open up more…. And it felt good. I grew to see that the councilors and even the other participants really did care about what happened to me and how the status of my wellbeing in and out of the program was progressing. Slowly my family begin to notice that I was changing for the better. That my relationship with my family was improving. I was more attentive to my children and my wife,,,, My parents and siblings started to tell that I was different. Better different. I established bonds and friendships that have allowed me to open up and access my… “Betterself” if that makes sense. I’m happier with what I’ve achieved and to do away with the…. “Stinkin’ Thinkin’” if you will. Riley was my councilor and really cared about my walk and if I needed anything at all he was there for me. Jessica is the most caring person and this is her calling and not just a job. Megan…. What can I say? She is brutally honest but in a Don Rickles sort of way. She can say what she wants but it comes across as she means it. Loving and that she genuinely cares about her flock. Julie is amazingly intelligent and loving when God said blessed are the meek, he was talking directly to her. She so gentle and kind. Hannah and Jennifer keep the front part of the place running like a machine. Jill? She does the difficult task of keeping the back part and front part running like a top. All together they make an amazing team. Dr. Carpenter and Shauna and Amber do an excellent job at staying on top of the medicine side of things. They are all easily accessible and are willing to work with the patients and their medication needs. All of the team are constantly going through continuing education so they can better serve their patient’s needs. The support I received from the staff was so beneficial and they made sure that I had the psychological and physiological tools that I needed for success both during and post treatment. If you need addiction or psychological therapy or both (because they almost always go hand-in-hand) this is the place for you. They truly care and they have a calling and God-given gift for what they do.

Going to longleaf has been the best decision of my adult life. The staff is committed to your individualized care plan and they truly care about your successful recovery. From my initial intake to my experience in their aftercare program, the longleaf staff did everything in their power to encourage my healthy recovery. The medical staff accomplished more than my primary care physician and psychiatrist have in years past. They are thoughtful and knowledgeable about the specifics of addiction recovery. My individual counselors create a safe space for learning and connection. I can’t say enough kind things about this center. Our area has needed a place like this for many years and I’m glad long leaf found a necessary home in Baldwin county.
