I have many fond memories of Mamma Lucia’s, with its hearty portions, flavorful pasta, coming home after a long day to a meal that rivaled home cooking. But it’s clear that day is long gone.
Their special right now is essentially Chicken Fettuccine with bacon and pineapple. You can taste that just thinking it, right? Juicy chicken with a tangy aftertaste, a complex yet smooth cream sauce? No. Not at all.
The chicken was bland and has this watery aftertaste. The sauce, the noodles, both feel like they’re missing salt. I’m not even talking heavy salt, I just mean like, the amount you throw in the pot just to get the water boiling, the thing that gives them flavor. The sauce tasted less like Alfredo and more like a bland bechamel. The pineapple wasn’t even particularly strong, and the bacon honestly wasn’t even that potent. It was like you took all the qualities that made the dish and you somehow removed them, leaving you with the bland, tasteless approximation of what the meal could be.
For a $30 special that’s plain embarrassing. This isn’t anywhere near acceptable as a meal to serve regardless of the price, but when you try to play it up as some sort of fine dining, you almost can’t help but wonder what happened? Where did all the flavor go? Mamma Lucia’s used to be good. This made me want to scrape my tongue clean with each bite and struggle to continue eating it only because it would’ve been such a waste of money to straight up trash. I mean this with all sincerity when I say even the least accomplished attempt to make this at home would be better with the most budget of ingredients, in the same amount of time it took them to prepare it, because it wasn’t a quick service in exchange for its lack of substance.
There aren’t that many good pasta places in Bethesda. This place used to be one of the best. At some point though, it became the worst in all things but portion. And I really don’t think that’s enough to make the trip.

Had a birthday celebration lunch here based on positive reviews and were very pleased. The staff and server were very welcoming and personable, the food and wine excellent, and the informal atmosphere made for a very relaxed experience. Highly recommend!

Eggplant parm with alfredo & carbonara was really good
Carbonara had a little too much bacon but it was still very good
Eggplant parm was super yums
Service was quick
Great quick lunch spot !
I think a little music would go a long way for atmosphere though!

“I had a mixed experience. One employee told us that service would not be provided unless a tip was guaranteed first, which felt unprofessional and made us uncomfortable. How ever, another employee later stepped in and provided the service without issue, which I appreciated. I hope the business clarifies its tipping policy so customers are treated consistently and fairly. I also want to say that the girl who refused service had blonde hair

I really enjoyed my pizza. The counter girl Molly was great. They were so nice to let me order even though it was close to closing. Overall it was a great experience.
