I had an outstanding experience with Platypus Tours and our guide, Rob Vanoncini. From start to finish, Rob was knowledgeable, professional, and incredibly attentive to every guest on the tour. He has clearly built strong relationships with the wineries throughout Napa Valley, which gave us access to unique experiences and insights that you simply don’t get on your own.

What I appreciated most was how accommodating Rob was to everyone’s individual interests. He was prompt, attentive, and made sure each guest felt welcome and had a great experience throughout the day.

The lunch was excellent, and I especially enjoyed visiting the smaller, family-owned wineries. Getting behind-the-scenes stories from the winemakers and learning about the history, production, and passion behind the wines made the experience far more meaningful than visiting larger commercial wineries. Those personal connections and insider perspectives were a highlight of the trip.

As someone visiting from Florida and staying in San Francisco, I wanted a true Napa Valley experience, and Platypus Tours delivered. The smaller group setting, personalized attention, and access to boutique wineries made the day feel authentic and memorable.

If you’re looking for an authentic Napa Valley wine experience, Platypus Tours is well worth it. I discovered some fantastic wines, learned a tremendous amount, and thoroughly enjoyed the entire day.

One tip for first-time Napa visitors: if you think you may purchase wine during the tour, spend a few minutes beforehand planning how you’ll get it home. Whether that’s checking bottles in a wine suitcase, using a wine travel carrier, shipping directly from a winery, or arranging a shipping service, a little advance planning can save both time and money. Trust me, you’ll probably find a few bottles you’ll want to bring home!

If, like me, you're overwhelmed with trying to decide what wineries to visit in Napa and how to get to them without driving, look no further. Platypus Wine Tours offers the answers with "one-stop shopping". From the convenience of being picked up and dropped off at my hotel to visiting three boutique wineries I never would have found to a lovely picnic lunch in a vineyard, I can't recommend their tours enough. I did a join-in tour and thoroughly enjoyed my fellow guests and Army, our driver and guide. Well worth it!

We went to Rutherford ranch & Tedeschi (both had awesome staff, great wines & gave us a tour of the vineyards) we also went to Merryvale (beautiful but wines were not as good). The box lunch was very yummy!

What a wonderful experience! This was our first time in wine country and our travel agent booked us this tour because we had no idea how to go about visiting all the wineries. Casey was our driver and we couldn’t have asked for a better tour guide. Not only was his sense of humor delightful, but he was also very knowledgeable about wine, all the wineries and their owners, and he gave us a lesson on reading labels during our lunch. And the lunch provided by Platypus was delicious too. We learned so much and had so much fun. We will be recommending this tour to all of our friends. We would love to come back and do it again and hopefully get Casey to be our driver. This was our favorite day of our vacation to Sonoma.

We had the most wonderful time on our wine tour! It was my first trip ever to California and both my husband and my first time to Napa. Our driver James was so fun! He actually over heard a conversation regarding our music and played it…that was a tad embarrassing but super fun (inside joke) You know you have a customer service focused driver when they pay attention to those details. We went to Ghostblock, Bougetz and Rutherford Ranch and learned so much. We even met the owner of Rutherford Ranch on our tour! We will definitely use Platypus Wine Tours again! Excellent day in Napa! Luis got us tastings at 3 amazing wineries. It was all very relaxed and fun. I learned a lot and also laughed a lot. We tried a lot of great wines and it was very easy to order shipments to send back home. I would definitely book this tour again!

We had the absolute BEST time and experience with Platypus Wine Tours. From the very beginning, we received information, recommendations, and tailored planning. We paid the extra fee to have it planned out, and I would definitely recommend going that route if you are open! They tailored the wineries to what we wanted to get out of our experience, different wines and instagramable views.. You can have them plan as little or as much as you’d like. They booked everything for us, gave all the information- and this is all before the actual tour! We had the absolute best driver. Robert was such a gentleman and walked us to and through every step of the way. He really made the experience even better. Let us play our music, went and picked up our sandwiches for lunch while we were at our first tasting, brought everything we needed for the day, and was right on time. He made sure we didn’t have to worry about timing and didn’t stress us out at all. I actually cannot recommend booking through Platypus enough!! (picture we made Robert hop in)

This was our 11th year visiting Napa, and once again we booked with Platypus Tours, they are simply the best! Every year we look forward to this trip, and the experience never disappoints.

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Tina for the past few years, and she is absolutely fabulous. She always tailors tastings perfectly to our wine preferences and makes sure every stop feels special. Her detailed communication and cost breakdowns are so helpful, especially since we often travel with friends.

We’ve also toured with Gary several times, and he’s fantastic as well, he’s patient, fun, and always ready to roll with our group’s shenanigans. Both Tina and Gary make the day feel effortless and memorable.

We chose to celebrate our 15th Wedding Anniversary in SF. I've been wanting to do a Napa Valley wine tour for a while & chose to celebrate our actual wedding anniversary with Platypus Tours, recommended by Chat GPT, as a more personal/intimate tour instead of the bigger tour companies. Platypus definitely made this experience an unforgettable anniversary, a lifetime memorable one.

From the moment I booked till we departed back to SF, Platypus delivered convenience & service. Within 24 hours of booking our tour, I got a call from reservations confirming day/time, transportation needed, and any food allergies. Following the call, I got a detailed email summarizing our call (Ferry info., how to prepare, what to expect, etc. ), which this email became handy the day of, since we were using the SF/Vallejo's Ferry. The day before our actual tour, we got a text to confirm our tour, which was nice to have a direct # should our plans change overnight.

The tour itself, fantastic! Jason, our tour guide, is super friendly, funny, and very knowledgeable about the history of the towns, to do's and not to-do's during our tasting's. He started as our tour guide & instantly became our photographer, server, and assistant for the day. We did not have to worry about our purchases from the wineries. He kept them safe, and we were able to transport them back safely to SF in a carrying box, sold by Platypus. Unlimited water bottles were kept cold and readily/easily accessible to remain hydrated throughout the entire day. He kept us on track/time to each destination. We also made a quick bathroom stop on our way back to the ferry and still made it back in time for our 6:25 PM SF ferry.

Being on this tour allowed us to learn the history behind each winery & their wines, how to swirl & properly taste wines. A very interactive and fun tour to do! The tastings provided by each winery were fabulous. Tasting fees at each winery were about $25/PP (in 2025) and were waived based on how many wine bottles we purchased. Lunch provided was light, delicious, & paired well with our wines.

Overall, the experience is a must-do if you're celebrating a special day, love wine, and history. I cannot stress, STAY HYDRATED! Support small businesses by choosing to do your tour with Platypus Tours, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

My wife, daughter, and I had an incredible experience with Platypus Wine Tours. From start to finish, it was a thoughtfully curated, small-group adventure that gave us a true taste of Napa Valley’s charm. We visited three distinct wineries—each one a gem, including some of the state’s standout producers and intimate, family-owned operations. The variety was fantastic and gave us a well-rounded appreciation of the region.

Our guide, Chris, was phenomenal. His deep knowledge of Napa Valley, wine tasting techniques, and how to make the most of our time made the day seamless and enriching. He struck the perfect balance between informative and fun, and his passion for wine was contagious.

The motor coach was cozy and comfortable, seating around 12 people. Surprisingly, one of the highlights was getting to know the other guests—everyone was friendly, and it felt like we were all in it together. The lunch was another pleasant surprise: fresh, filling, and delicious, which isn’t always the case on tours like this.

Overall, this was a full-day experience that was absolutely worth every penny. Hats off to Chris and the Platypus team for making it so memorable. Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a personalized, enjoyable, and educational wine journey through Napa!

Everything was on time, the individual wineries chosen provided first class service and a nice addition to the tours and we met some great people on the way along with some good wines. The small group tour is perfect for a solo traveler. The tour guide/driver was fantastic. The wineries we visited were outstanding. Lots of fun facts and history were shared during the tour. While the price doesn’t include the tastings at each winery, we were given deep discounted rates, $25 each. A simple and delicious lunch was included as well as plenty of water during the day. The bus was clean and air conditioned.

We had a private tour arranged by Jen and our guide was Kyle. Both were fantastic. This was a bucket list item for us. Jen was so helpful in the planning of the tour, very friendly and wanted to ensure that we had a great tour planned. Kyle was our guide. He was friendly and very knowledgeable. Steve was a wealth of information and very friendly. We really enjoyed the three smaller wineries that he chose for our exploration. It was particularly interesting in getting to talk to the owners of the winery is and learning the winemaking process. We also very much enjoyed the other 10 people on our tour, who were from all over the world. We would highly recommend Platypus tours!

Went on tour with Gary to the northern Napa region and visited 3 small family wineries. Gary was very knowledgeable and friendly. We were part of a lively group with 2 other couples from Idaho and Pennsylvania and a family from Belgium. This was our third trip with Platypus the first 2 being 10 years ago all great stops. Definitely recommend.

We loved our Platypus Wine Tours on Friday in Napa and Saturday in Sonoma. It was a great opportunity to visit smaller family-owned wineries, get special tastings (and attention!) and be safely driven around the areas.
