This is not a review I ever expected to write, and honestly, I don’t feel good writing it.

I’ve been doing business with Leather Medic for nearly 10 years. I’ve trusted them with my own vehicles and referred many customers because I’ve always had positive experiences and genuinely liked the owner and his team.

Recently, I brought my Hummer H2 in for a headliner replacement. I supplied the material myself. The owner quoted me $450, I offered $400 cash, he agreed, sent me an invoice for $400, and told me the vehicle would be ready Monday.

On Friday, he called and told me the job was finished early, but also that he had accidentally broken my windshield during the installation. While frustrating, I told him I understood that accidents happen and that I simply wanted it handled properly.

What happened next completely changed my view of the business.

The owner immediately demanded payment before I had even seen the vehicle, despite the fact that we had agreed I would pick it up and pay on Monday. When I explained that I wasn’t comfortable paying before inspecting the vehicle, especially after being told the windshield had been damaged, he became frantic and repeatedly told me he had “done me a favor” by lowering the price from $450 to $400 because I was paying cash.

I disagreed. We negotiated a price, he accepted it, and I agreed to it. That’s not a favor. It’s a business transaction.

I followed up in writing, reminding him that we had agreed on Monday pickup and that I would inspect the vehicle and pay the agreed upon $400 at that time. His response was, “Don’t expect to come Monday and the bill be $400.00.”

Shortly afterward, I received a revised invoice showing a balance of $540 instead of the original $400.

To be clear, I never refused to pay. I was fully prepared to pay the agreed upon $400. I simply wanted to inspect my vehicle before handing over payment, which I believe any reasonable customer would do under these circumstances.

Unfortunately, the problems didn’t end there. When I finally picked up the vehicle, the replacement windshield had not been installed correctly, a piece of my mirror had been broken off without anyone making me aware of it, and weatherproofing that had been removed during the repair was not reinstalled.

What makes this especially disappointing is the history. After nearly a decade of supporting this business and sending customers their way, I never expected to be treated like this. The issue was never the original price, and it wasn’t even the broken windshield. Accidents happen. The issue was how the situation was handled afterward and the condition in which the vehicle was ultimately returned.

I’ve always liked the owner and his team, which is why this experience was so surprising and disappointing. Unfortunately, this experience has completely changed my opinion of a business I once trusted and recommended.

This entire situation was unnecessary, disappointing, and completely avoidable.

These guys are total pros. They completely redid both front seats (leather and padding) in my 2002 Honda S2000 and several interior pieces that were faded from the sun. (So faded that the original red color was now pink.) I was worried about matching the red color of both the leather and interior pieces but they matched it perfectly. They were quick and communicative and their prices are more than fair. They’re also super nice guys and drove me to the metro after I dropped my car off. They were recommended as S2000 specialists and they definitely are. But they clearly can do any car. (A Ferrari was sitting out front when I initially pulled up.) Highly recommend!

Had rips in the leather of two front seats in my 2013 Toyota Highlander Limited. I went to Leather Medic on a Tuesday. Got an estimate from Carlos. It was $200 below an estimate I got from another shop. Carlos scheduled the work for two days later. I dropped the car off Thursday morning and it was done, as promised, Friday afternoon. Absolutely beautiful work! Very highly recommend.

My dashboard was destroyed from years of sitting while building my motor. Rather than replacing I chose to reupholster and I couldn’t have chosen a better professional shop than Leather Medic. They were quick to assist, schedule, and keep me updated as well. The dash and matching door cards turned out beautifully and I will be going back for anything else I need!

I had a great experience with Leather Medic MD today. I am in the process of preparing my car for sale and needed to have an area of the leather driver's seat repaired that had rubbed out and discolored. It was not a major damage but was noticeable and I wanted to color it in. Over the weekend, I emailed Carlos pictures of my need and we came to agreement on a price that met my needs and expectations. He was very responsive over the weekend which pleasantly surprised me and was a good sign.

Carlos was able to fit me in this morning so brought the car in and was able to get work done while he worked on the seat. Carlos was very welcoming, professional and service-oriented. He has a very comfortable customer waiting lounge where I was able to set up my laptop and be productive.

Carlos called me back to look at the work and, again, I was very pleasantly surprised. The work was immaculate! He performed what he calls a "refurbish procedure", which involves cleaning the leather, sanding it down lightly, and dying and clear coating the area. I was so impressed the the attention and diligence he paid to ensuring every step was done thoroughly and with care. My biggest concern having this work done was that the touched up area would not match the rest of the leather seat but it is seamless. It looks great.

I highly recommend Leather Medic MD for your leather repair work. Ask for Carlos Barrios owner of the business and himself an exceptional leather craftsman.
