Got the original sammich and you really can’t go wrong with steak and chimichurri. Great staff + service, it was quick and very filling. Will swing by if I’m in the hood next time!

I probably wouldn’t come back here I just came to try it, the overall taste is good, but the steak is chewy and i couldn’t bit into my sandwich properly and that just didn’t give me the satisfaction I wanted, my boyfriend and I spend 70 dollars on two sandwiches and a fries and a drink which is kinda expensive.
Their chimichurri is kinda overpowered by lots of garlic but their fries dipping sauce is really good. I probably rate this place a 6/10

The fries were a bit salty. The cheese steak sandwich was good with some parts of the steak being a bit chewy and others very tender. The onions added a good bit of flavour. The bed had a nice crusty crunch to it, with a soft interior to absorb the jmsteak juices.

Awesome steak sandwiches! A little on the smaller side but the quality of ingredients is unlike anywhere else. Definitely worth a stop in.

The sandwich had a very spicy kick that was totally unexpected and the beef was exceptionally tender. Everything was tucked into a fresh, crusty, perfectly sized bun that held up beautifully. The fries were excellent, crisp and salty.

At $20 for the sandwich and $30.51 total for one person (no beverage), it’s not cheap, but the quality absolutely justifies the price. This is the kind of meal you remember afterward, and I would definitely return. Unfortunately, they had no Craig's cookies.

During our visit we got the original steak sandwich and the tallow fries.

The sandwich was great, the chimichurri added a good kick and added a lot of flavour. The steak was cooked to a nice medium rare, and was cut up so it wasn’t too hard to chew. The bread added a nice crunch, and the dipping sauce helped to complete the sandwich!

The fries were good, crispy, and delicious. No ketchup, but they’re great without it anyway.

The service was good, very kind and welcoming and had our sandwiches out in 10 minutes or so.

No indoor seating here, there are a few benches to eat outside.

Overall the food was great and I would come back for the sandwich again.

Stopped by Bear Steak Burgers on College Street after hearing all the hype. The space is small but trendy — cool concept where you can’t request ketchup or well-done meat. I tried the Original Steak Sandwich, Cheeseburger, and Fries cooked in beef tallow.

The steak sandwich had great flavor from the chimichurri and bread, but the steak itself was a bit chewy. The cheeseburger was cooked well but didn’t have much depth of flavor — it felt plain and was missing the white onion that was supposed to be on it. The fries were crispy but incredibly salty, which took away from how good they could have been.

Overall, it’s a fun spot to check out at least once. You can tell they care about quality ingredients and keeping the menu straightforward, but it just didn’t wow me. I’d come back to give it another try though — maybe I’ll have better luck with a different sandwich.

i am sad to say that i was kind of disappointed by the sandwiches here — you’d think they would’ve really PERFECTED it since it’s so popular, but i feel like it could’ve been much yummier. also they didn’t have dessert so i was sad 😕

i actually very much preferred the fries over the sandwich (even though the fries are definitely not mindblowing, they were still really yummy). the texture was kind of like five guys fries, where the structural integrity was kind of soft and floppy, but certain edges of the exterior had a light crisp to it. they were also seasoned very saltily (as was everything else — this was a very sodium-heavy meal), but the beef tallow gave it a kind of mellow, deeper flavour. i really liked the chimichurri mayo that came with it — it was also VERY SALTY but was a bit tangy (i also liked dipping the sandwich in it).

the sandwich as i mentioned before, was kind of disappointing. although the bread was really soft and had crispy toasted edges, the meat was a bit chewy/tough (although it had a moderate amount of fat that gave it a rich flavour) and also kind of cold..? even though everything was served fresh, it wasn’t hot or anything. the fresh chimichurri taste was very prominent, covering every bite and crevice of the bread, and it was even a little bit spicy with its peppers.

the burger was also meh — i only had a bite, but my impressions were that the patty was really thick and beefy (which was nice), and the onions were crunchy and sharp, but the sesame bun was too dry and since there weren’t many other toppings, the breadiness was kind of overpowering. it felt like a “stale”, store-bought hamburger bun from the supermarket.

there was also no seating — just a small “bench” area right next to the road that can sqUEEZE three/four people max (if you really squish).

As a big fan of steak sandwiches, I was excited to try the bear steak sandwich after hearing some good things about it. My ideal steak sandwich is a juicy, flavourful classic with caramelized onions and a savory garlic sauce, so I was looking forward to seeing how this one would compare.
The steak itself was perfectly cooked—tender and well-seasoned. The quality of the meat was excellent, and it was clear that the chef knew how to prepare a great piece of steak. The bread was well selected.
Unfortunately, the chimichurri sauce was the main reason this sandwich didn't meet my expectations. It was a bit dry and overwhelmingly salty, with a bitter edge that really took away from the flavour of the meat. To test if it was just the sauce, I removed it from the other half of my sandwich and added a little mayonnaise. This made a noticeable improvement, allowing the flavour of the bear steak to come through more clearly.
While the preparation of the meat was fantastic, the sauce didn't complement it in the way I'd hoped. I appreciate that every restaurant has its own unique take on a dish, and perhaps this style just wasn't for me. Given how well the bear steak was prepared, I'm open to trying it again sometime in the future.

Honestly, this place is not the fanciest, most well-decorated place for a hangout, but oh my it sure was memorable for me.
Tiny humble store, with a just as cute menu, and there is barely seating spot.
However, if the bench outside is available, that is the perfect setting, speaking from personal experience.
Sorry for the yapping but here are my thoughts of the sandwiches.
The steak sandwich, what I came for, was great. Tender meat on crunchy bun, with the chimichurri, though a bit oversalted for my taste.
The roast pork, comes with some stock on the side for dipping. Immaculate, just slightly messy to eat, part of the experience amirite :)
And my favourite, the cheeseburger. DUNK IT IN THE SAUCE THAT CAME WITH IT, NOWWW 🗣🗣
Maybe I really like the burger cuz that is not something I try often, especially for thick patty ones, but for now, BEAR will be the place for my craving!

I tried their original steak sandwich and I thought it was good but not GREAT. There were a handful of bites that were too chewy, where I had to just swallow entire pieces of steak. And it wasn’t cheap either (approx $24 after tax and tips).

That said, the chimichurri sauce was the best part about the sandwich, it was flavourful. Again, overall, it was good, but not exactly something I would go out of my way to eat again.

Bear Steak Sandwiches are absolutely delicious. On my most recent visit, I tried the collab with Great Fountain, and it blew my mind how good it was. The service at the shop is extremely friendly, and the atmosphere is a classic small sandwich spot. The decal on the window is apt it is your friendly local sandwich shop. My only negative here is that I think the servings here are slightly small for the price. I’m not usually full after my sandwich. That being said, I will keep eating here because the food is great.
