We stopped by Bear's new location at The Well to try their three new steak sandwiches, and the first thing we noticed was how incredibly tender the steak was.

Our favourite was easily the Steak & Cheese. The caramelized onions were the star for us. Sweet, rich, and packed with flavour. Combined with the provolone, horseradish mayo, and perfectly cooked steak, it was one of those sandwiches where every bite just felt balanced.

The Steak Avocado was another standout. The avocado, jalapeños, pickled onions, and cilantro lime crema added freshness and texture that worked really well with the steak.
The Steak Alla Vodka was probably the most unique. If you're a vodka pasta person, you'll appreciate this one. The vodka sauce and stracciatella cheese made it rich and comforting without feeling too heavy. We actually saved part of it to eat later and it still held up surprisingly well.

What impressed us most overall was how easy these sandwiches were to eat. Steak sandwiches can sometimes be tough, messy, and difficult to bite through, but Bear has figured out the balance. The steak stays tender, the bread holds together, and nothing falls apart.

Shoutout to Juliana, who helped us when we arrived and made us feel welcome right away. The entire staff was friendly, accommodating, and genuinely enthusiastic about the food.
We'll definitely be back, and if it's your first visit, start with the Steak & Cheese. The caramelized onions alone are worth it.

After seeing all the hype and photos, I was really excited to try the steak sandwiches while at The Well. Unfortunately, it didn't quite meet expectations. The steak sandwich itself was pretty good, but temperature-wise, it could have been hotter; toasting the buns could have added some heat and crisp that would've made it that much better.

The sandwich also looked much heftier in photos, and the steak looked perfectly done. Ours wasn't bad by any means, but the portions and cook on the meat were a bit underwhelming.

While it tasted fine and the staff were nice, I'm not sure I'd want to go again, and if so, it might be worth trying the other location.

Quick service and friendly staff! I enjoyed their original beef steak sandwich. The steak was juicy and tender, and bread was soft and pillowy. This is literally what you’d expect from a steak sandwich.

Visited their location at The Well recently to try their new monthly special. Both their locations at The Well and on College (Little Italy) serve the same menu which is their steak sandwich and what they are best known for. Similar to their Little Italy location, all of their items are made fresh when ordered.

Their November (as of writing) special was their Bacon Cheeseburger, which is the Cheeseburger they previously offered with a bacon jam topping on top. The Cheeseburger is cooked to medium-rare, helping in adding a lot of flavour to the burger itself along with being a decent portion size on its own. They usually offer other specials, which are often collaborations with other chefs or local restaurants around the city and are shared between their two locations.

As with their location in Little Italy (on College St.), this would be one of the recommended eats at The Well's food market and as a local spot in the city. Probably the biggest advantage of this location is that it's closer to the downtown core, so it's more convenient to try one of the more popular sandwich spots in the city.

Steak sandwich was very flavourful. Loved the chimichurri although just sliiiiiightly too salty for me but overall great. I would have it again. At $20 for the sandwich alone though I think it’s a little overpriced. I would probably have it again but only if I’m really craving it at that price point.

Staff was very friendly.

Tried Bear Steak Sandwiches and honestly didn’t expect it to be that good. The steak was super tender, well seasoned, and loaded into the sandwich without being overdone. It’s messy in the best way and actually filling, which I appreciated. Simple menu, no gimmicks — just a really solid steak sandwich done right. Would 100% go back.

Love their sandwiches, amazing taste. Reasonable price for the food. Quick service. This location isn't as amazing as the College location for me, I ate at both many times now, just not 100% similar. The Well location sandwiches feel a bit oiler, the sauce as well. One time we ordered, the bread wasn't as fresh and with those Portuguese buns, it's easy to tell when it's not fresh. Friendly staff. Depending on the day and time, The Well could get busy, hard to find seats right away, but you can with a few mins wait. I find these sandwiches are BEST when you eat it right away while it's warm

Tried Bear Steaks at The Well and loved it. We had the steak sandwich and pork sandwich with fries and two pops. Both were excellent – the meat was tender, the gravy rich, and the chimichurri added a great punch of flavor. Definitely worth it.

Was super excited to try this place but was left disappointed.
It came with a delicious and very spicy chimichurri sauce.
I was not asked how I would like my steak, unfortunately mine was rare, definitely not ideal for a sandwich.
It was extremely difficult to eat as the meat was barely cooked so chewy, like biting into a worm sandwich.
Staff needs some more training and supervision, easy to see a steak is undercooked when you are slicing it up, every sandwich needs to be perfect.
I’ll give this place another shot in a few months and hoping to have a better experience.

Quality steak sandwich with a satisfying amount of beef done medium. Topped with a spicy chimichurri sauce so it doesn't lack in the taste department. The steak was served on a nice a nice bun which is so important. An improvement would be melted cheese for example, provolone but this is not an option. Lots of seating adjacent the the counter. I recommend this location if you want steak on a bun.

Absolutely Unreal – A Must-Try at Wellington Market!

I don’t usually write reviews, but the bear steak sandwiches at the Wellington Market in Toronto deserve a standing ovation. From the moment I took my first bite, I knew I was experiencing something next-level. The meat is insanely tender, rich, and flavorful — it practically melts in your mouth. Whatever marinade or seasoning they use? Genius. Perfectly balanced, savory with just the right kick.

The sandwich is loaded, but not messy — every ingredient feels carefully chosen to complement the star of the show: that incredible bear steak. The bread is fresh, warm, and toasted to perfection, giving a satisfying crunch that doesn’t overpower. I also appreciated how the staff took pride in what they were serving — friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about their craft.

If you’re in Toronto and you’re not trying this, you’re seriously missing out. This is hands-down one of the most unique and delicious sandwiches I’ve ever had. I’d give it 6 stars if I could. Can’t wait to come back!

I had a bear steak sandwich and it was seriously one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. The original steak was super juicy, has a little kick of spice in there and really tender. You can tell it’s something special. The beef tallow fries are also a must try! If you’ve never tried bear before, this is a great way to start. It’s hearty, filling, and honestly just really good. I’d definitely have it again!
