Buyer Beware: Refurbished Apparently Means Used, Tested, and Programmed

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Car Computer Exchange, and I think potential customers deserve to know what I was told about their so-called refurbished ECUs.

Last Monday, I spoke with Brittney and was assured I would be receiving a refurbished ECU that was programmed for my vehicle. I was told that if they could get it programmed in time, I would have it the following day. Otherwise, delivery would take 3–5 days.

By Thursday, I had received no update, so I emailed them. I followed up again on Friday. Neither email received a response.

On Monday, I finally called and was informed that the ECU they had tested was bad and that they had to order another one from eBay. I requested to speak with a supervisor and was promised a callback. That call never came.

Today, I called yet again. I questioned whether the ECU they were purchasing from eBay would actually be refurbished or simply used. The representative couldn’t answer my question but promised a supervisor would call.

Marcus, the assistant manager, eventually returned my call. He confirmed that they were waiting for an ECU purchased on eBay. He explained that if the unit arrives and tests good, there is nothing for them to rebuild. They simply program it and ship it out.

I specifically asked, “So basically, you’re sending me a used unit that was tested and programmed?”

His answer was YES.

I then questioned what they do to address the known coil-driver issues associated with these ECUs. His response was, “If it tests good, what do you want us to fix on it?”

That’s precisely my issue. Their website advertises rebuilt and refurbished computers, yet their own assistant manager openly acknowledged that a used ECU can be purchased from eBay, tested, programmed, and shipped to the customer without any actual refurbishment if it passes testing.

Testing and programming a used ECU is not the same thing as rebuilding or refurbishing it.

When I pointed out that I found their advertising misleading, Marcus became loud and asked what I wanted to do. At that point, we canceled the order, and I requested to speak with his supervisor.

To make matters worse, I’ve left multiple messages for Brittney throughout this ordeal, and she has not returned a single call.

After more than a week of waiting, unanswered emails, unreturned phone calls, and conflicting expectations about what I was actually purchasing, I ended up with no ECU and a canceled order.

I’m not claiming that every ECU they sell is handled this way. I’m sharing exactly what their assistant manager told me about the unit they intended to send me.

If you’re considering purchasing a refurbished ECU from Car Computer Exchange, I strongly suggest asking exactly what refurbishment work has been performed on your specific unit. Don’t assume that “refurbished” means anything more than a used computer that passed their testing and was programmed.

Extremely disappointing customer service, poor communication, and a serious lack of transparency about the product being sold.

I ordered a part for my daily driver OVER a month ago. After about 2 weeks I received an email asking if I ever received my order. I had not, nor did they provide any tracking information. I waited a couple more days and then notified them I had not received it. They emailed me back and told me they not only never sent the part but didn't have a part to even send me and offered a refund, a shipping label to have my current broken part sent back to them and repaired "at no cost"(why would there be a cost for me to PROVIDE YOU with the part and labor of taking it off myself) or I could wait and hope for the best. I asked that for the shipping label but asked that they still continue looking for a part. They never answered, never sent a shipping label. I ordered the part from another company and got it within 4 days. I have emailed them 2 or 3 times in the last month requesting a full refund being that they never had the part and never sent the shipping label. They have yet to even respond. 100% the worst experience I've had. Absolutely no communication and hundreds of dollars that have yet to be refunded for a part that was never even available, wasn't able to start my new job costing me more money, had no way to get around so I had to pay for everything I needed to be delivered and couldn't see my child for 2 weeks. I lost not only hundreds due to this experience but also precious time with my loved ones and my job. Hopefully this review will catch their attention and I will get a response and refund.

DONT BUY !!!!!!! please read all the reviews on this company. If you can’t decide whether to order or not this company absolutely are 100% crooks the staff Brittany and Bobby are un knowledgeable about what to send out to their customers. I ordered a PCU over a month ago for my vehicle never received it canceled the order after two weeks of not receiving it and put in for a refund. Still haven’t received my refund over a month later I have tried vigorously to get into contact using their email calling the sales staff calling the parts department. Nobody can help me with my refund or escalate me to the owner or manager of this company they claim they don’t have a supervisor on duty or a corporate department. I don’t know who’s running this business, but take it from me in the hundreds of other people on these reviews do not order from this company.

Customer service sucks. Quality of product is awful 😖 the ecu sent is beat up and spray painted! The functionality of this product is not what is stated on their website. I 💯 would not recommend this company. The lack of shipping speed. The lack of customer service and they charge a programming and restocking fee. Dont be a dumbie like me and make this mistake.
