We checked the Writers' Room out on impulse on Friday July 31. The room is nice, 50s feeling. Bartender was great.
My husband asked if he could step out on the deck for a photo (too hot to sit there) and was told yes, but she then said in a supercilious tone, that a table required a $50 tab. This is ridiculous. Tables were empty, and any drinks for two would come to $50 anyway, ours did. It was her tone that gave a sour taste.
Also when asking about the bitters used, they were Fee Brothers', an American company. I did some research and we have plenty of Canadian sources available in Toronto and across the country.

Because of the experiences we had when this was known as the roof top bar, we finally made it back to experience the New and improved Writers Room. Im not the old geezer who complains of how much better it was in the good ole days, but can I just say, "there is no F&%₹*way we are to return." The ambiance and vibe is certainly not premium hotel. The service is sports bar quality and the alcohol and beverage pricing is off base at minimum but violating in reality. To be fair, the thai squash big plate is the only savior; delicious, amazingly aromatic, and at a fair price. Live and learn.... $$$

I have just returned from the worst Afternoon Tea experience of my life at the Writer’s Room Bar in the Park Hyatt Hotel. If I could give it less than one star I would. A dear friend took me to the Afternoon Tea for my Birthday Celebration. We were seated at the back beside a family with shrieking children who were running around while watching the soccer game on a large screen TV. We waited about 20 minutes before anyone came near us. When the Afternoon Tea arrived the server explained what was on the tiers by looking back at the menu on the table. When the family of screaming children left, two more groups of incredibly loud, and I mean deafeningly loud groups replaced them. We were never checked on, never asked if we needed more hot water etc. We asked another server could we move to a quieter table in the adjacent room. He completely ignored us and went on to attend to other tables even serving a bottle of wine to one table and speaking to the other table. While my friend was trying to speak to a manager I asked him again if there was a table available as he didn’t respond to our initial request and he actually said, “I didn’t know if you wanted a big or small table”. There were two of us! I love Afternoon Tea and have had Afternoon Tea at the Astor Lounge, Clockwork, the Four Seasons, the Ritz-Carlton, Shangri-La and Joni a number of times and many, many more. This was by far the very worst. It was like being in an extremely loud Sports Bar with very negligent service. The Writer’s Room should decide whether they want to be a Sports Bar or a relaxing spot for Afternoon Tea. The wait staff is in need of some serious training. I felt especially bad for my friend who wanted it to be a special occasion. She ended up apologizing to me for much of the Afternoon Tea. She should not have been the one to apologize!!

Joined the writers room for afternoon tea to celebrate Father’s Day with the husband and had a wonderful time.

Thank you Perry for the great service despite having to take care of so many tables this afternoon.

Food tasted great with an amazing view. Great place to relax and chat away from the bustle in downtown TO. Be sure to make a reservation if you wish to sit by the window like we did.

This is not my first time but by far my favourite time here. I came to watch Mexico vs South Korea. The vibe here is always top notch, the views, the amazing drinks, the energy. Zaqir gave us some incredible suggestions, excellent hospitality, we’ll be back for sure and if you’re in the area we suggest you stop by Writer’s room.

What a fantastic evening at Writer’s Room Bar. The atmosphere is elegant yet welcoming, making it a perfect spot for drinks and shared plates.
We enjoyed the oysters, fries, and tartare, and every dish was excellent. The oysters were fresh, the fries were perfectly crisp, and the tartare was beautifully prepared.
The highlight of our visit was the exceptional service from Zakir. He was warm, knowledgeable, and attentive without ever being intrusive. His hospitality made us feel genuinely welcome and elevated the entire experience.
Great food, great cocktails, and outstanding service. We’ll definitely be returning and will be asking for Zakir again!

ZAKIR was a super personable sw4ver, really delicious food, get the maitake mushrooms and the beef tartar, fab cocktails. I loved the peach Shake-a-lot. Can't beat views of the TO skyline.

Bad experience. Service was not so good
and the staff was rude. Needs improvement in customer handling.

Absolutely unprofessional bartenders . I am a hotel guest at the park Hyatt and I was shocked to see such trashy service . My bartenders name was Kevin or so he said it is .

Came with an old friend, for early evening cocktails and some snacks. The views from the bar are stunning! Great cocktail choices and imaginative food; friendly staff. Prices just about affordable. A very memorable place - I hope to be back the next time I visit Toronto.

Today we celebrated our 25th anniversary at the “Writers” and it was an unforgettable experience. From the very first moment, we felt truly welcome and comfortable. The hostess made sure we got the best table in the bar, which made the evening even more special.
A special thank you to Lora for the excellent service — attentive, friendly, and warm throughout the entire evening. The drinks were fantastic, the atmosphere was amazing, and the view was simply the best in the city.
Overall, it was a perfect evening that we will always remember. Highly recommended!

Yum. I liked the steak tartare. They make a good French 75 also. The view here is amazing. However, our waiter was a bit unprofessional and seemed new. He didn’t know where to put the drinks (even though there were free coasters) and made some odd joke when it was time to pay about us having no money left.

An absolutely exceptional experience from beginning to end. Writers Room Bar truly delivers on every level — a rare balance of elegance, creativity, and genuine hospitality.
The food was outstanding: beautifully presented, thoughtfully curated, and full of refined, layered flavors. Every dish felt intentional, crafted with both precision and passion.
Service was equally impressive — attentive without being intrusive, warm, and effortlessly professional. You feel taken care of in a way that elevates the entire evening.
And the atmosphere… simply unforgettable. There is a certain energy here — intimate, sophisticated, and quietly vibrant.
But the true highlight is the patio. It is, without exaggeration, one of the most beautiful patios in Toronto. The panoramic skyline views, the soft ambient lighting, the perfectly designed seating — everything feels intentional and elevated. Sitting there at night, overlooking the city lights, feels almost cinematic… like you’ve stepped into a different version of the city, calmer, more refined, more beautiful.
It’s not just a place to have a drink — it’s a place to experience Toronto at its absolute best.
Writers Room Bar is not just somewhere you go — it’s somewhere you remember.

I’ve been to the Writers Room Bar so many times and it never disappoints. It’s definitely pricier than most bars, but honestly worth it for the view alone. Sitting up there with a drink and looking out over the city skyline is such a nice experience, especially around sunset or at night.

The atmosphere is relaxed but still feels a bit upscale, which I really like. It’s a great place to catch up with friends or just unwind after a long day. The drinks are always well made, and service has consistently been friendly. I keep coming back because it just hits the right vibe every time.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Toronto Icon That Never Misses

The Writers’ Room at the Park Hyatt Toronto is, without question, my favourite place in the city—and one of Toronto’s most iconic experiences. Perched on the 17th floor of the Park Hyatt at 4 Avenue Road, right at Avenue & Bloor in the heart of Yorkville, it offers a perfect blend of old-school glamour, literary history, and elevated modern luxury.

From the moment you step out of the elevator, you’re met with panoramic views of the Toronto skyline—especially magical at sunset or after dark when the city lights come alive. The atmosphere is intimate, sophisticated, and effortlessly cool, attracting writers, artists, creatives, and discerning locals who appreciate timeless elegance.

The bar service is exceptional. The cocktail menu is thoughtfully curated, featuring both classic and inventive options crafted with precision. Whether you’re sipping a perfectly balanced martini, a rich old fashioned, or one of their seasonal signature cocktails, every drink feels intentional and refined. The wine and spirits selection is equally impressive, making it an ideal place for both casual drinks and celebratory evenings.

What truly sets the Writers’ Room apart is its soul. This space has hosted legends—Margaret Atwood, Leonard Cohen, and generations of thinkers—and you can feel that creative energy in the room. It’s not loud or pretentious; it’s confident, warm, and deeply Toronto.

If you want a place that feels special every single time—this is it. Classic, elevated, unforgettable.
