I needed a hitch and a hitch bick rack for my 2016 Chevy Spark. I decided to take it to the Hitch Shop, located at 2512 - 26 St Ne Calgary, T1Y 1A5. 403 - 291 -3566. I made an appointment for 9 am April 23, 2018 to have the hitch installed.
At around 10:30 am or 11:00 am they called me over and walked me into the back area to look at the tab that holds the bumper to the side of my car. It was damaged. It was on the drivers side that I was looking at. The guy that was doing the work said he did not do it and it was from something else. The lady from the counter was also there looking and she said she was going to get a peron from the body shop next door to look at it. So I went back to the waiting area. The guy came over and looked at it and nobody said anything to me before he left. Waited for about 20 mintes then the counter lady went back next door again. After she got back, then a few minutes later a differnt guy came in with a tube of something. He went into the bay area and a bit later he came out, so I decided to talk to him. He told me that he put glue on the tab to hold it in place. A glue that will take care of it and stays flexible and it's a glue they use to fix vehicles, and that he put tape on the area and I wasnt supposed to remove it till the next day.
I waited for my car to be brought to the front, I went out to look. That's when I noticed the tape on the passenger side in the same place as the drivers side. I said why is there tape on this side. He said it's there because they put glue on that side just to make sure it was all good. He also said wait a day to remove the tape. I said okay and didnt give it much thought at the time as I was getting tired after being there 3 hours. Also I figuered they new what they were doing and thats the reason why I took it to them to begin with.
So I drove over to a friends place, opened the hatchback and seen that the tail light did'nt even have screws holding it in. So I went back to find out why. The same person that was doing the work said "Omg, that's never happened to me before". Was not happy at this point with the service.
So I drove home parked it overnight, waited till today, April 24th to take the tape off. I went out and before removing the tape I took pictures, started with the passenger side. I the removed the tape and found that they broke that tab off as well, just like the drivers side. I looked close and my bumper is cracked where the clip is molded to the bumper. It's all once piece, the bumber cover and the tab that hold it on.
When they first took me back to the bay to see my car they never showed me the passenger side and did not mention how they broke that side aswell. I thought it was wierd that both sides had the tape buy they made an excuss so I wouldnt peel it off.
So I contacted my innsurance place they told me to go back there and they should do the right thing. So I did and they refused to make it better and they still were saying they didnt do it. I told them I had pictures showing there was no damage at all when I took it in. The lady called the owner and he refused to talk to me, so I said can I pleas have there innsurance information. She called the owner back again and he said no, he refused. The ladies husband who also works there then called me an "asshole and said he see's people like me all the time". So I'm thiking I am not the first person they have done this too.
I now got told that I can't even go through my own insurance to get it fixed because it happened in a shop. and not an accident. So they told me the only thing I can do is take them to court. Which is a joke cause even if I won, I would still have to ask them for my money because the court does not, and I know they would not pay as the owner is difficult to deal with in a profesional manner. Oh and I spent over 600 dollars at that place and came out with car damage.
So please beware if you do go to either of there locations In Calgary same thing could happen to you, If it does then they will say the same thing to you, was'nt us, it was allready broken. I hope this makes customers re think of getting them do do anything to there vehicle because if they do damage then they will not take responsibility for the actions which will turn into a big fight.

Got an estimate done today 1000 dollar to fix the damage. BOB GARDNER does not want to pay it seeing that his worker caused the damage. Next I will be suing him and also picketing his shop in the hopes to stop people from dealing with him and getting into the same trouble I am having with him.

Thank you.

I urgently need to adjust my hitch due to the fact that I changed from an SUV to a truck. I talked to Linda about my problem and she was so nice and was able to fix my problem in just few minutes. Their tech is also technically good.
I will definitely go to this shop in our next purchase related to truck, towing etc.

So friendly and helpful! They misquoted the price on the hitch my vehicle would need. Turns out it was another that was higher priced, but they honored the original quote and did not charge me more! Super service and very helpful. I highly recommend them to everyone!

The 2 Hitch Shops ( 42 ave S. E. and 26St. N.E. ) are the real deal when it comes to hitches , wiring, 5th wheels and bike racks in Calgary. There is a reason they are used by all the major dealerships in the city. They have the experience and all the major hitch lines you could need. I have worked for Ford and GM dealerships and we use them for all our hitch installs. Hard workers who know their stuff and go the extra mile to get things done. Many times they have stayed late to look after my customers. Linda at the north shop has been in the business over 20 years.

I recently had a hitch fitted to my 2013 Passat and in the process had damage to the AdBlu tank that resulted in an expensive repair at the VW Dealership.
This unfortunate incident was handled by Bob and his wife in the most professional and "best attitude way" that I would ever have expected.
They are just great people and refunded me the entire amount for the repair of my car. I have looked at other great reviews for this business and in spite of this unfortunate incident would highly recommend The Hitch Shop with Bob and his Team.
Thanks again for this great attitude.

We had a hitch and harness installed in our Saturn Vue on a Saturday and he to return a few days later after testing the 4 point harness on our trailer - they hooked it up backwards (left turn on vehicle did right turn on trailer and vise versa) and did not test the installation before returning the vehicle back to us the first time. After the second repair, they did not screw on the tail light cover and left the vehicle dirty with handprint and cut up the back plastic interior panels. They apologized for the poor service and told me the fired their mechanical who did the work. They need to get things right the first time and be more careful with their work.

It's a long story, but their service was terrible, unsafe, and they would not take responsibility for their actions/poor installation.

The 'incompetence' story above does not surprise me, as I had a similar experience - owner/manager was shameful in his actions.

I strongly advise that you take your business and money elsewhere.

I brought my truck in for an 830 appointment. Told it would be done by 11. Stayed in Calgary because I live out of town. 11 came around, my truck hadn't moved. Called in they appologized and said they would have two guys on it and it would be done in 45. It is now an hour and a half later and my truck still hasn't moved. This is ridiculous I have other appointments to get to and it looks like I will miss them all.. Thanks hitch shop!

I've been using these guys for years. They have hundreds of hitches in stock and are fultime experianced hitch experts rather than a truck parts or canopy business that order hitches when they need them. We have a fleet of trucks and contruction trailers and they get us looked after real fast.

had a fifth wheel hitch installed with brakes and wire harness. I went to get the trailer in sweetgrass about an hour from lethbridge. I hooked up and found I didnt have any brakes. I then came into Lethbridge after driving 110 km for an hour and a half. I had to stop and the trailer came fying into the back of my truck. The hitch shop forgot to put the pins in the rails which I didnt know as it was a new install so all looked fine and it was locked up. I was able to get some pins from Canada tire and got back safe and sound. I went to hitch shop and they found the guy who installed the brakes forgot to plug in the connector under the dash...opps sorry they said. Then the pin issue they basically told me to go to hell that I did that. Truly unbelievable service. Someone could have been killed as they obviously didnt do a final inspection as the brakes unplugged proved that.We have te whole conversation recorded on fault and the fact it was not checked out before it left. $4000.00 damage and again they told me where to go!

My husband and I have been RVing for 25 years and we would never think of driving for a block without checking our hitch connections completly before moving. We check our lights, brake controller and safty chains. We recheck them every time we gas up or have a lengthy stop. In 25 years and over 200 thousand miles we have never had a problem. You might want to be more though in your proceedures. I can't belive you really drove for all that distance without checking your conections. Shame on you!

i also have been camping for years & years & never had any problems, i've had friends hook up my trailer for me & what is the first thing that i do before i start driving? I CHECK THE TRAILER HOOK UP MYSELF TO MAKE SURE IT IS DONE PROPERLY AS I'M RESPONABLE FOR TOWING THE TRAILER NOT THE OTHER PERSON WHO HOOKED IT UP. everytime i stop for fuel i check the trailer as it is common sense to make sure that you are towing properly. i have worked at the hitch shop in north east calgary for years & we get people in all the time THAT SHOULD NOT BE TOWING PERIOD!!!!!. this one guy came in for a rear hitch install on his 5th wheel trailer to accomadate his bike rack so he can have his kids bikes on there, i welded up a hitch for him & installed it & put on the bike rack & showed him how it works.then he asked me if i can back up his truck & trailer out of the yard because he doesn't know how. i was shocked by his comment & i told him how i felt.there are plenty more stories that i can tell. then there are people who tow trailers with the front of the vehicle lifted up & the front of the trailer almost dragging on the ground & then wondering why they have trouble steering, braking & trying to keep the trailer on the road. $400.00 fixes this problem as it is called using a weight distribution kit. it works & helps keep you safer on the roads as we all have friends & family on them. YOU ARE RESPONABLE FOR WHAT YOU ARE TOWING NOT THE PERSON WHO HOOKED UP YOUR TRAILER FOR YOU. if you are not sure if you are hooked up properly or do not know how to drive with a trailer STAY OFF OF THE ROADS AS YOU ARE ONLY A HAZARD & A ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.i can go on & on with differant things that i seen & heard but i have other things that need to be done. ONE MORE THING THAT I WILL SAY IS THAT THE GOUVERNMENT SHOULD MAKE IT MANDATORY FOR EVERYBODY THAT IS TOWING A TRAILER (EVERY TRAILER BIG OR SMALL)TO TAKE & PASS A TRAILER TOWING COURSE AND IT WILL BE ADDED TO YOUR REGULAR LISENCE. quit being an IDIOT & be more responable. we all have friends & family out there on the roads. SHAME ON YOU IS PUTTING IT MILDLY.
