When I first moved to Calgary I literally tried out 5 different salons and was not pleased. This salon though left me breathless and it is truly one of the best ones in Calgary. The costumer service is amazing and one of the workers there named Danica is amazing at what she does whether it's cutting or colouring. Love the place ! Such welcoming people,

I cannot believe that nobody had the same bad experience as me. Firstly, I booked for a scalp massage with the owner. She tried to cancel me at first because on the day of my appointment, two stylists called in sick so there was nobody to blowdry my hair. This, to a customer, would sound like an invalid reason considering that the owner WAS able to do the scalp massage (the main service), but it was just blowdry that "couldn't" be completed.

However, because I didn't get the message in time, I went anyway and of course, the owner said since I was already there, she would do my blowdry but warned me that she wasn't a stylist. Boy... was she ever right. She blowdryed so horrible that even I could do a MUCH better job at home. My hair had no volume and it wasn't neat and there was zero technique. She even admitted that and felt ashamed of a blowdry. I understand she isn't a stylist, but c'mon... as an OWNER of the salon, shouldn't she at the VERY least learn how to blowdry in case her stylists are sick? And since there is only like 4 stylists, if one stylist calls in sick, she would have to step in and do "apprentice work" and that involves the basic blowdrying.

Also, I tried to get a hair appointment with Joi for a color and she spoke so rudely to me on the phone. She outright refused to do a strand test for me because "she has 12 years experience and didn't need it". I told her it wasn't because of her, but it was because of me and I wanted to see exactly what my hair color would be like. She still refused and when I said I would not book with her, she said "That's fine. It wouldn't have worked out anyway." I've never met anyone as rude as Joi there.

Heyo! 1) If the owner explained she wasn't a stylist, why would you expect her to be able to style your hair? 2) Why would you presume the salon owner could style hair? Do you think the owner of a gourmet restaurant can make a soufflé? 3) Joi happens to be the most pleasant (and talented) stylist I’ve ever had. Not only is she technically perfect, but her styles capture personality and I always leave feeling like a rock star. I follow her where ever she goes. If she was “rude” to you, it was probably warranted. P.s. you crazy.

Your response cannot be taken into consideration as it involves a lot of personal attacks. I sense that you are Joi as you talk like her, or one of her friends or family who would at least be biased. The owner HAD to blowdry my hair herself as her stylists called in sick, if you read my review. It was either that or have me walk out with wet hair. NOW do you understand? But as Joi/her sidekick/BrainNoise under a different ID, you probably won't. By the way, although the owner cannot blowdry, one thing I like about her is that she HEARD how Joi talked to me and agreed it was very rude and had a talk with Joi after.

I booked an appointment for a women's cut with a New Talent stylist. Danica was very sweet, easy to talk to, and gave me a great cut. However, when it came time to pay, I was charged for an Advanced Stylist as opposed to a New Talent. As it was Danica herself charging me, I didn't want to make a stink about it especially because I liked my cut, but $45 and $60 is a bit of a difference when you include taxes and tips.
I haven't decided if I would go back to be honest.

I am sorry that you felt that the hair cut was too expensive. The stylist Danica has been with Volume for over a year and in the whole year she has always been an Advanced Stylist. The average pricing for an Advanced Stylist is 60 dollars. There must have been a communication error because Volume hasn't had a New Talent Stylist is over 8 months. We currently have no one doing 45$ haircuts in the future this may change. We are very happy that you enjoyed your hair cut and your experience with us next time we will ensure that you are with the correct level of stylist with the appropriate pricing.

I walked in to this salon downtown volumebeautybar. And i could not believe it. First thing I was helped with my coat then asked if I would like something to drink they were so nice I felt like I was very going to be looked after. I was introduced to my stylist and never asked to move chairs while she looked after someone else. I was told this salon had one on one service and boy do they ever. The service was top of the line and never felt like I had to fight for what I wanted my hair to look like. When I left there it was no joke I really loved my hair and felt like a million bucks really. The lady in the front was so good the stylists were all smiling who ever owns this salon I wish them so my h luck cause they really are worth it wow they are doing it right.
