Negligence and Liability
Negligence can extend beyond property loss and may encompass failures like inadequate security measures or unsafe premises. I believe the facility directly caused my losses through inaction or misconduct, I will file a premises liability claim .due to inadequate maintenance of the property, insufficient lighting, negligent security, the smart shop storage facility located at 411 City View Blvd , in city of Vaughan have fail to provide adequate security measures, such as proper lighting or surveillance cameras, alarm system , easy access for anyone to enter premises from the loading Bay Area once anyone exit , thieves walk in straight into premises in restricted hours after 10 pm & no alarm goes on , without using any access code anyone can enter the premises from Bay Area straight into lobby & then no access code needed again in elevator again so easy access to any floor code needed to operate the elevator again so they can access to any floor .The theft wasn’t a random theft but seems to be a targeted one as thieves targeted only 8 units on 3 floor & in my row they only hit my unit so someone from the staff had leaked info that I have high value items stored in storage as I myself on two ocassion mentioned to there staff & other 7 victims of theft who units were broken also mentioned to me that it was an inside job not a random theft . Poor quality locks & inferior quality door panels made it easier to open the locks as the door locks were made of inferior quality that just with a metal rod door panels & locks were easily twisted & opened with in seconds & there were no alarms systems & sensors were installed through out the premises , securty cameras were not monitored at all after staff hours & despite having video footages of thiefes taking all my belongings via elevated & loading them in the hallways in there vechile there staff pretended that nothing had happened & was being very sketchy & shady & wasn’t willing to disclose the facts & change the locks without informing me & didn’t notify me for two days & I found my belongings sitting in there office floors so that makes me think that there staff might be involved & all the negligence in security measures made things easier for burglars to have easy access to storage facility & with no after hour camera surveillance & no security guard on site made it easier for them to spend hours in my unit & breaking other 7 more targeted units on same floor . This burglary was completely preventable if all security measures were installed appropriately & all basic security steps were followed so storage facility is fully responsible for my loss & I want them to pay me for all my losses . I have taken video footages of 3 floor that has no camera , no alarms through out premises , No access code in Bay Area , in the lobby , in the elevator , No lights outside at night , No alarms tough out the facility , easy access to enter premises from side door & have forwarded video footages to my lawyer as a proof that there is no basic security also . I stayed at the premises from 9 pm to 4 am , moved in & out of Bay Area & no alarm system ever turned on . Shutters at Bay Area takes 3 min to fold down when people leave the premises at night & 50 thieves can walk in straight to looby & elevator as they won’t have previlage to put any access codes so all these evidence my lawyers will present in the court that smart shop storage facilities are fully responsible for my $64000 loss & they owe me money . I have receipts , proof of my purchases & all the empty boxes & packages the thieves have left behind . Hotspot for thieves.
The storage facility was negligent in providing satisfactory security since they did not provide satisfactory security. I am deeming them as negligent

Poorly ran business that only focuses on taking your money. Rent doubled out of nowhere after a couple of months even though some of the dollies are broken, and the two that aren’t (yes there’s only two dollies for the whole place, so better hope you’re magically the only person there when you visit) are very dirty, bring gloves unless you want to go home with grime on your hands. Roughly paying $300 a month for a 10’x10’ even though this location is not in the heart of the city. The offer you get when you sign up is literally just a trap, there's no mention that it’s temporary so don’t let them convince you otherwise when you sign up.

This company is absolutely the worst to deal with. They are disorganized, unprofessional, and blatantly dishonest. They put my belongings in auction despite an agreement I made with their agent and owner to pay $600 and move out. It’s clear they saw valuable items in my unit and are just trying to make money off of them. Even after I paid in full last time, my access code didn’t work, and I couldn’t even get into my unit.

The managers are incredibly rude and don’t know how to do their jobs. When I asked why I received an email that didn’t reflect the agreed-upon deal, the manager hung up on me. He later sent another email to “rectify” his mistake, but the damage was done. They also illegally claimed to have sent me a notice by mail during a Canada Post strike, even though they had my email on file and knew I requested communication via email only. I still have not received that letter to this day.

On top of that, when I tried to file an insurance claim for missing items from my unit, I contacted the insurance company, and they told me someone from the office would follow up with me the next day. No one ever did. When I reached out again, the office refused to process my claim, saying, “the event hasn’t happened.” That’s not for them to decide—it’s up to the insurance company. It’s extremely shady that I have to contact the store to make a claim, only for them to refuse to handle it.

Additionally, this company raises their unit prices every two months without notice and increases fees like late payment charges arbitrarily—sometimes by 20% or more. Their policies are all over the place, and they seem to make up prices and rules as they go.

They don’t secure belongings properly, fail to manage their location, and are money-hungry thieves. Avoid SmartStop at all costs. They will only cause you frustration and put your belongings at risk.
