BUYER BEWARE! Avoid this company!
Zero quality control! Ordered the Tatami bed frame and 2 nightstands in the maple finish and what showed up was NOTHING like the photos. Every piece of wood was a different, mismatching color! We just wanted what was actually advertised. Predatory return policy. Exchange for store credit only, a 20% restocking fee, and they expect us to pay return shipping. No refunds.

Just bought a Futon mattress and Bedframe from this shop and got some help making the decision on some of the products. Miguel was great at helping us find the right pillows and checking us out quickly.

The bed, sheets, and pillows are amazing! However, the service staff in the store were unfriendly - passive aggressive, and the delivery driver didn’t knock on the front door and was likely to not complete the delivery. Luckily someone came to tell me they were sitting outside - I was waiting for them in the kitchen. Everything was completed though and I got what I ordered. The quality is outstanding.

Thanks to Miguel at San Mateo store everything went smooth. The quality of the frame and mattress are excellent. The assembly was bulky and requires two persons due to the weight but otherwise everything went well.

Decent shopping experience. Good deal on floor model and delivery. Kind of chaotic with day and time of delivery as I was told something at store level that was not necessarily the case.
Store manager Mr. Bun was great in getting everything worked and back on track.
Would recommend.
Thanks you!

We stopped by to look at options for re-stuffing our couch cushions. Burt went above and beyond with his expertise - there were so many options and he guided us through every step until we found exactly what we needed. Burt is the freaking man!!! Will definitely come back next tome we need something stuffed.

We bought a sofa bed with the wool upholstery thinking this expensive couch would last years. Turns out less than 3 years. The 4 screws used to keep the back upright when not as a bed broke on one side so you can not lean back when sitting on that side. Even though we live in the Bay Area, the Futon Shop said the don’t service this furniture which sucks for sustainability and investment. A handyman and us noticed the repair would require cutting through the wool in the part of the couch where you sit as there’s no other access point.
While we liked the couch while it worked (and the wool was good at preventing stains) I would never buy such an expensive couch for such a short period of time.

I came in to pick up a Pure Comfort futon that I had shipped to the store and the commute to the store had me picking up right at closing. I wasn’t about to be that customer that extended store hours but David welcomed me right in! He was even generous enough to have me look around the store before settling on the futon that I initially chose. It was fascinating to see the variance of materials used in each futon/mattress and how they made custom orders if more or less firmness were preferred. I ended up choosing a Dawn Eco instead and was able to take it right home on the same day. I definitely recommend dropping by in person if you’re looking for a natural futon/mattress!

The product quality is great, and the salesman at purchase was excellent. Unfortunately, the post-purchase experience didn’t match. Delivery was difficult to coordinate, with little communication — I had to repeatedly call just to confirm if it was happening and at what time.
I had also ordered a sofa cover, expecting it with the bed, but it wasn’t delivered. The driver said the warehouse hadn’t sent it, and when I called TFS, I was told — rather abruptly — that it was out of stock until August 15. This could have been communicated earlier.
Overall, while I’m happy with the product itself, the lack of clear communication and follow-up was disappointing for a $2,000 purchase.

Pros:
Customer service
We stopped by the showroom in San Mateo to look at the futons in person and to try them out in November. I asked my husband, who is very tall (6’4”), to try it out and he find that it fits him well and was very comfortable. We wanted to get a couch that could convert into an extra bed for guests that is also non-toxic, comfortable, and affordable. After much research and thought, we decided to get it in March while it was on sale.
Miguel was very helpful and answered all of my one million questions. I appreciated his honesty and non-pushy salesman attitude. He said most customers already made up their mind about purchasing so he didn’t need to convince them. This is so true! He helped me place the order. We got the Amish Bent in Queen and Loveseat along with the mattresses. The covers I wanted were out of stock so I was able to pick out another one, which I absolutely love. I also got a mattress protector since I have two small kids and a dog.
Once my order was completed, I went to pick them up in my minivan. David was very helpful in helping me load all of the cumbersome boxes and they all fit!
They offer 12 months financing free interest!
Comfort
We’ve had our futons for two months now and I could attest that they are so comfortable! I love sitting on it and sleeping on it. All of my visiting family members also find them very comfortable, and some are even considering purchasing one.
I’ve never owned or even considered getting a futon in my life, and I am a 43 year old woman. I pick furniture that is aesthetically pleasing, eco-friendly, natural, comfortable, practical and functional. I find these futons to fit the bill!
Cons:
The covers were cumbersome to put on since the mattresses were so heavy, which only means that the mattresses are of great quality. That will probably make washing a pain in butt. Definitely needs two people to do it, and my husband and I had a hard time. I put a blanket on the futon that gets the most activity for easy washing. We can’t have everything 100% easy and perfect so I can live with this. Love that the covers are washable. I will spot clean most of the time and maybe wash every 6 months.
We got a queen so the mattress kept sliding down (even with anti-slip sheets under the mattress) making the seat stick out more than we wanted. We were told that it needed to be trained. It’s still pretty new and we haven’t sat on it often so we will see how it will be after a year.
Turning it into a bed is tough for me (I am about 105lbs and 5’6”). It requires two people to do it easily, but I still try to do it myself anyway. It helps to look at the wooden frame where the stop slots are.
Overall, I am super happy with my purchase and looking forward to enjoying them for a long time. I recommend it to those who don’t mind having a non-toxic couch/futon that requires some maintenance (mattress and cover shifting around) every now and then.
