Came here just for the fabled chocolate cake shake and I wasn't disappointed. It's pretty cheap too. A large is only 7 dollars including tax.
The whole restaurant looked like it's a pub from a western movie. The staff were also very nice. Definitely a must visit spot of you are visiting the area.

We came here around 9pm since it opens late until 1am. The restaurant was still busy with so many customers that late. I ordered the food via the tablet and waited in the pick up area for about 15 minutes to pick up our food. There are many tables available inside and upstairs. The cute decorations brought back 90’s feeling with neon lights.
- Italian beef: they were generous with the beef slices! The flavor was good but it was monotone (just beefy taste). The bread was good and soggy from the juice. For the price, it was worth it because there were lots of beef.
- Chicago hot dog: it was good but nothing special. The sausage was good and the bread was soft. The dill pickle, tomato, and peppers tasted fresh and gave a crunch and acidity to the hot dog.
- French fries: okay but it wasn’t crispy.

This was supposed to be "fast food" but they were very busy and lost my order. After 40 minutes they found my order. It was barely warm.
The Chicago dog was not your average hot dog. It was an explosion of flavors.
The Italian beef was just that. Lots of tender beef on a subway bun. Not bad but not great.

This place has ruined hot dogs for me...
I'll explain, we live 13 hours away and I know it will be a long time before I have another hot dog as amazing as the one I had here! I don't eat beef so I went with the vegan dog (even though I'm not vegan or even vegetarian) and it was so amazing! My husband had the polish sausage and thought it was great! My kiddo got a burger and said it was great too.
The restaurant was quite busy the day we went but the service was quick and polite. We chose to sit on the patio and it was clean.
Five stars for sure!!

Portillo’s in Chicago is a must-visit! The food was delicious, the portions were generous, and the atmosphere was fun and welcoming. The Chicago-style hot dogs and Italian beef are classic favorites, and everything was served quickly. The restaurant is clean, lively, and full of Chicago charm. I also loved taking pictures—the decor make for great photos. Definitely a great spot for anyone looking for authentic Chicago fast food and a memorable dining experience.
